Tape around the moldings to protect anything else from getting "over-sprayed". Get the color that matches your color, I believe you could get the color for your car at any body shop.
Most likely you will get a "single stage" paint (unlike factory 2 stages, coat of paint and then coat of clear coat) but that will work just fine.
Spray it and let it dry.

oh btw... don't remove the side moldings.... you might brake the clips if you aren't familiar with stuff like that!!!
Make sure that the side moldings have no "armor all" or any silicone or was on them, so the paint can actually stick to the molding!!!
Peace out.....

Sand them with some fine sandpaper 200 grit wet-sand. The paint will stick a lot better. make sure you cover everything else. Make sure the tape is not covering any of the molding, and take your time.

If you use normal spray paint won't that flake off after a while? I'm interested in doing the same thing since mine are starting to show their age. Is there some sort of plastic dye spray paint you can use? or any other type?

You can spray with whatever kind of paint and any variety of color.
If you want, you can spray "sanding primer" prior to painting to help the paint stick to the molding and cover small defects caused to the molding throughout the years.
The best thing is to apply a clear coat on top of the paint (before it is completely dry) if the paint wasn't obtained to specifically match the original paint (..if you buy the paint at a bodyshop).
Don't spray too close or too far. Too close causes saggy paint and runs, too far will cause roughness. As you apply a coat of paint when spraying, the result AS you spray should come as shinny as it can be.
If ya'll lived in south florida, I would be more than happy to do that for ya'll.

Yes, the plastic, rubber paint would be something to try if you could find it in the body color. The moldings on my 92 were dried out, so I sanded and re-painted them black. I didn't last forever, but they looked great for a couple of years. Then you just have to re-do it. It was better than putting armor-all on them over and over again. And you can get the look you want. Hi-gloss, semi-gloss, satin finish. Whatever look you like.

depends on your model year.

on the 6th generation and 7th generation, you can buy the color matched moldings from the EX versions and then just have a body shop or the dealer install them.

why go through the pain of doing it yourself, besides saving money. nothing beats getting it done right.

and please do it on a NICE day, windy days will cause a mess

for me ive used alot of painters tape and painters paper? forgot the name 3$ at homedepot (wont leak thru if you overspray the newspaper) and like someone said above, do even strokes!! dont stop in between or itll cause lumps or sags when you continue where youve started... i would wait around 30 min after each good even spray to let the paint dry/tacky, then respray seocnd 3rd coats if needed.

if the paint under is still wet meanwhile the upper is dried, youre def. going to see chips or wear within 6-7 months.

I think you kinda answered your own question there. And as far as I can see this is a rather minor thing to do, you just have to be carefull. I'm gonna do it when it starts to warm up more and it isn't windy outside all the time...
