I use a ballpeen hammer and LIGHTLY tap on the gasket. This will cause it to lift. Then use a scraper or blade and carefully take off the gasket. For the final stuff I use a grinder with a soft brissle attachment.

Brake cleaner or carb cleaner might be able to help get it off, ive gone at it with a razor and it took longer but no damage to the head.

Your not the only one. I usually burn it a little then go at it with a razor blade, then before putting the new one on spray some WD40 on it so it doesnt stick like that again.

dude i had the same problem when i swapped intake manifolds, i just went to autozone and bought some brake cleaner, and a pack of razor blades, and i stuffed the intake ports with paper towels, took me an hour and a half of work, but that way the head's surface came out unscratched and clean, it just takes time

There is a product called Gasket Remover made by Permatex(I think ) $4.00 a can. Works really fast. Just spray it on and wait for 5 min. Scrape it off with razor blade and it comes off real easy. Took me 20 min total.

ive always used chisel and a hammer - then went over it with a wirewheel and made sure there was no gouges - if so, sanded it down a bit.

never had that much of a problem, yours sounds pretty bad!

I used a razor but, I also plugged the ports so you dont get crap inside it. start at one corner and work your way to the other. patience is a virtua, take your time go easy everything should go easy. try not to gouge it as you might end up with it leaking.good luck
