Default Still no keyless entry. Worked before, now it doesnt.

I created a thread a while back about this.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1515234

The car had the keyless entry working for a long time after changing the headunit out (had it professionaly installed because I had no idea how to work on cars back in the day). Since then I have turbocharged the car. Ever since the install the keyless entry does not work anymore.

Can anyone help me figure out why it is not working now? Only thing I can think of that affected it was, disconnecting the battery (maybe remote needs to be reprogrammed), and I have changed to a p28 ECU.

98 EX btw

hahahaha what a ******* idiot....

the keyless entry is a part of the radio... you just took out your radio... that means no more keyless entry... ah durrrhhhhh ..

and now your new ECU is prolly incompatible with the keyless entry

I am having the same problem, i have the stock headunit stashed behind the cigarette outlet area, and connected to the new headunit. But my remotes arent working anymore...i dont know if its a loose wire or what but it just randomly stopped working and i REALLY liked that option...

WOW, pot calling the kettle black.

Im pretty sure I know a little about cars, and judging by your post I know quite a bit more than you. And please learn how to READ. I said it WORKED LONG AFTER CHANGING THE HEADUNIT. Please do all of us a favor and run into a knife blade.

I have tried reprogramming and nothing happened. Ill try replacing the battery tonight and try to reprogram tomorrow. Little red light is strong so I dont think that is it either. Im really confused why it's not working.

Bump for more help

Dude you are bored. why don't you go do something instead of waiting for an argument. If you don't have nothing nice to say, then don't say it at all. Get a life dude. Its people like you that waste space on here. You probably still live at home with mommy and daddy and have to pay no bills and have nothin else to do but to sit on ht. Go somewhere else if you aren't down with helping someone else out. Nuff said!

You might want to search around.. I've never heard of Honda incorperating their Keyless entry system into the stereo on any other site but here.. The stereo has NOTHING to do even remotely with the door locks or power windows..

I was working on a accord not too long ago.. it was in a flood.. battery was disconnected and keyless entry would not work.. only one door lock would work if operated by door control.. it was a mess.. Anyhow.. on accords (I'm sure civics aren't much different) They used a RF controlled "Head unit" COMPLETELY SEPERATE FROM THE STEREO (Which this car didn't even have at the time) and it controlled power windows and locks.. ours was bad, and after replacing it, I had to program it.. I saw a writeup on programming it just by searching google.. they want you to cycle the key on-off 3 times and leave the key in the on position the 4th time.. (Or something along those lines) after pressing the lock/unlock button on the remote, the doorlocks will work confirming it was programmed....

like I said.. it's an accord, but I'm sure it's VERY similar! I've NEVER heard of the stereo ever being incorperated with door functions.. That's perposterous.. This isn't GM!!

the keyless antenna is attached to the radio and the power and ground also go throught the radio harness if the wire is pinched it will not work also if the radio is unplugged and the car is started the keyless system not the remote has to be reprogrammed

On a 98 ex w/keyless entry the remote is integrated through the radio. You have to retain the radio in the car to make it work.

It's interesting that yours worked for a while though, not sure why

Post this is the audio video forum instead, people over there are more knowledgable on this stuff

*edit* and btw I do car stereo for a living, so I know a little bit

ok all you have to do is stuff the radio behind the cig lighter. it's much easier if you remove the face of the stereo. the green plug needs to be left pluged in and the deck also needs 12v, switched, and ground. it's not very difficult. good luck

Guys I already have the aftermarket headunit installed. It worked for about a year after it being installed. I understand that you have to have the factory headunit stashed yatta yatta. The question was, why could be causing it to all of a sudden not work?

Im thinking it might be a loose wire in the harness like someone said above. Any more opinions are welcome.

Like was offered up before, loose wire (it's stuffed back in there ya know)..
Blown fuse, Always check this before I start f-n around with the wires.
Dead Battery, In the remote.
I don't have a 98 and this is probably a longshot but.... how combined is the radio and the keyless?... battery disconnected, radio would require unlock code to work, maybe keyless will only work if radio is working?

On the 96-98 Honda civics the radio also controls the keyless entry functions. So when you disconnect the radio= no keyless entry. Its not something else AND the radio, its the radio itself. Thats how honda did it!!! I never got a remote from honda when i bought the car, but recently I purchased a remote off ebay, programmed it and BAM I have keyless entry just by putting my factory stereo back in!!! programming is WAY different on the civics also! The 99-00 civics also have a different way of programming the remotes.
