Gear Indicator Light?
So, more times than I can count, Ive had to really think about what gear I was in. I was watching WRC and saw that they had little LCD screen that let the driver know what gear they were in. I know that Sportbikes also have this on some of the bikes. My question is, Is it possible to wire in something like this to a Prelude manual tranny? At ANY point, does the comp know what gear the car is in based upon voltage or a electrical signal or anything?

Besides reverse, no.
Just keep practicing. It'll become second nature.

You could rig something up if you really wanted to... The thing to do would be to make a little plate of something like aluminum or carbon fiber that matches the shift pattern at a particular height up the stick. Some way to mount it securely... Then some micro switches. That would get you as far as some led indicators... For LCD... Um... A basic stamp and a serially addressable display... Getting a bit more complex thought, but not imposable...
You should seriously just trust that you will get the hang of it... You will eventually learn both what gear you are in based on what gear you put it in... And also what gear it's in by the sound the car is making.... It's the basis of better driving habits like rev matching your shifts and whatnot... Trust me... I didn't think I was ever going to get it. And my first car didn't even have a tach!
If your concerned about ******* something up in the mean time, just take the car out of gear, and throw the stick back and forth, you should be able to figure out what gear you were in by how much it moves in ether direction... Worst case, you put it right back in the gear it was in... No big deal. My dad taught me to shift that way every time, and I think you'll find that it's a big help while your learning.

until you master it why not just look? all it takes is a glimpse down to see where it is.
i wanted to make something similar. i thought it would be cool to make a shift **** that had the number gear your in light up red or something. but that would be hard lol

i think that would be pretty cool. not that i dont know what gear i'm in....i would just think it'd be cool to do that. like if you had and auto prelude cluster and made it so the lights would light up as you go through the gears. it'd be pointless but cool.
yeah same i know what gear im in i just think it would be bad *** having a shift **** light up what gear its in
i have a rough idea of how to make that shifter if any one cares to fund the tests ill make it lol
