engine knock, where does it come from and how do you diagnos it?
So i just rebuilt my d16z6, with clevite bearings which worried me when i found out that you are supposed to use honda bearings. BUT, the plasti gauge tolerances all came out perfect, so i thought that everything would be ok.
when i first started the motor i could hear the knock when i used my finger to rev the throttle body, its around 2-3k rpm. i disregarded it as paranoia, drove 1000 miles on the car changed the oil and i just noticed the sound again today.
i pulled a plug from each cylinder and listened for the knock, it was there regardless of which cylinder was getting spark.
my question is, how can i tell if it is actually knocking, or if i am paranoid and it is just something else loose? i know what rod knock sounds like, as i have blown a couple engines that way, but this is quiter.
the engine also runs great and has tons of power. (for a d16)
if i use a stephoscope where exactly am i going to be probing and what will i hear?
thanks for any input.
if I get nothing out of this i will probably just take it to an engine builder/professioinal and let them see what they think
thanks.
