TDC help
Hey guys,
I have tried searching but to no avail. I am reassembling my motor after a long period after taking it apart so this is not fresh in my mind. I have figured out that cylinder number one (driver's side) needs to be at the top of its path to be tdc. Also, the cam gear arrows have to be pointing up at this point to be tdc as well. My question is: Is there any correct way to align the cam gears at tdc other than seeing that the arrows are pointing up?? Also, just to clarify, the number one cylinder needs to be at tdc to match with the cam gears correct? And the number one cylinder is the one furthest to the right as you are looking at the motor from the front correct?
Sorry for the bunch of questions I just would like to make sure I have everything correct. Thanks in advance guys!

you are correct about the #1 cylinder. it is the furthest to the right (if you're looking from the engine bay).
the cam gears do have arrows on the spokes of the cam gears, but there are also markings on the outter rim near the teeth. when the arrows are pointing up, these markings on the gears will point at eachother. when the arrows are pointing up, and these markings are pointing at eachother, then they are set for the #1 cylinder at TDC.

Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
Okay guys, now I'm confused, there is only one arrow on each cam gear, so do those arrows point towards eachother at TDC? or do they both point up? Thanks again

there are really small indents (not arrows) 90 degrees and 270 degrees from the up arrows. they are on the side of the teeth, on the very outer edge of the gear. they are very small and hard to see. when you have all 4 lined up, you are at tdc. also you can put 5mm pin punches through a hole in the first cam holder and into the camshaft itself
edit: not sure if you can use pin punches to hold the cams on the h22, since they have those girdles bolted to all the holders...

There are marks on the sides of the cam gears also (at 9 and 3 o'clock) that you line up as well as pointing the arrows up. You also have to find the TDC mark on the flywheel (white plus sign) and line that up with the little marker on the engine block. Once you do those two thing you're at TDC and all you have to is get the T-belt on.
