Hi gang. Two years ago I did a write up on a 92 civic SI front sway bar install on my car: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=879554&page=1 and I mentioned that I'd do a write up once I get the rear sway bar...I finally got one..I stalled buying this for waaay too long.

The goods:


The instructions given by Beaks is all you need. This is a really simple install.

I thought one of the hardest parts would be to remove the rear LCA bolt to subframe..but I was wrong..it was easily taken off with a breaker bar. (I broke the bolt the first time I attempted to take it off way back when I put my first set of lowering springs on..since then, I had taken it off 3 more times for different spring swaps and lower tie bar..so its not going to be frozen on any more.


some notes for us 92-95 civic guys:
- I have a 92 civic VX, and I didnt have any tac-welded nuts on the inside of the subframe..thats one less step we need to worry about!

- when drilling into the subframe, I drilled a hole that was next to the smaller hole. After lining up the reinforcement brackets to the subframe, the bracket hole didn't line up with the existing hole, hence I had to drill a completely new hole.

This is a pic of lining up the bracket on the subframe to know where to drill. The bracket has to be perpendicular to the ground.


Here is a pic of the drilled 3/8" hole. Note how it is right next to a pre-existing hole.

One thing about the endlinks..I had a really hard time tightening the bolt to the rear lca's. I can't figure out why..I used a ratched, but it got really hard, so i used a breaker bar. I dont think it should be that hard - and I believe the bolt was the correct thread and size. The lca is from a jdm ITR...

I have to get my hands on an impact gun and finish it off sometime soon. Right now the bolts are threaded in about 1/4 to 1/2 way into the nut of the rear lca...hmmm..weird..

my setup is:
92 civic front sway bar, 94 integra front LCAs
JDM Apexi Coils on ITR shocks and ITR rear LCAs
15" GSR meshies with Falken Ziex 512s
and this ITR 22" rear sway bar

car feels more neutral with some oversteer. Having the front sway bar is a good thing. If I crank down on the endlinks, maybe there will be a difference..i'll let you know.

 

i just did mines this past friday and dang it was the hardest thing in the world doing it by myself. the hard part was trying to get everything else bolted up . installing the sway bar was easy with the drilling but putting the bolt on the shocks and lca was hard. that bitch didn't want to line up but with the help of someone, it should be easier. hope that helps out with people that are trying to do this. next up is installing a front type r sway bar. i hope it's not as hard as the rear.

 

depends what car you have..if you see my link, i did front sway bar. I had to swap out front LCAs..and so it was a pain..

i think the front was just as hard to put in as the rear because of the integra front lcas, then again ive had the integra rear lcas on my car for a while. i guess if your doing the rear lcas with the sway bar it would be mildly more annoying since the bolts suck. doing the front made me wonder if it wouldve been easier swapping over the entire integra front subframe with it....

 

anyone have this trouble with the endlinks?

i'm sure that beaks provides the bolts that are the right size from Honda, and my LCA is off a Honda..soooo...i dont know!

 

i personally didn't have any problems with the end links. my lca came from a 98 gsr so it bolted right in. again the only problem was trying to get everything bolted up.

just did my type r front sway bar on a 93 civic hb dx and it was the easiest thing in the world. thanks for reminding us about the bolt that connected to the frame. i used a torque wrench and it came off fine. thanks homey. now my car turns like a bitch. so little body roll and it turns on a dime.

 

What are your impressions on the kit?

yeah, did you manage to get your tie bar back on? Ya might need that with the sway bar.

yah too bad u had to throw aside the tie bar. good pics, sticky this!!!!!!!!!!

 

i'm going to throw on a beaks lower tie bar or skunk 2 when i get a chance..but i dont think they help that much...more for bling, i think..IMHO..not really necessary, JUST becuz i put a sway bar in..

"say goodbye subframe"...? i doubt that..i dont autocross, this was more for street fun. plus, i think EKs are more prone to subframe tearout rather than EGs with this kit. but thanks for your concern!

my impressions: very stable with some oversteer..turning feels so much more solid and fun! i haven't pushed the car yet cuz of my endlink problem..i'll let you know once i get that fixed!

I don't know why these ITR rear LCAs are being like this!...i'll figure it out this weekend..if all else, knock the tackwelded nut off and use a nut that works..altho i'd rather not.

Oh, I forgot to update you guys:

I went to my friends work and he used an impact gun on those bolts that go from the endlink to the rear LCA. It eventually turned in. The car felt it had a bit more oversteer after the endlinks were seated.

So yea..very cool mod to do! I am happy with the results. Thanks for the comments.

 

good write up, i plan on upgrading my stock si rear swaybar to an itr one really soon, after the rlca's and camber kits.

 

very nice write up.. i used to have a BSQ kit and it works fine too.. but now i have a ASR one.. im scared my sub frame might rip..

there has been multiple accounts of the subframe still tearing out with this kit

you should be ok but still make sure to check it out back there periodically

the kit cost me 230 or 240 bucks shipped..i believe. give or take a few bucks.

All you need is the kit and gsr or ITR rear LCAs.

tools are basic hand tools and a drill.

i was looking at this kit...cause it isn't as large as the others....but after a few minutes on google i ran into some pictures of a torn subframe and a lot of people commenting on how it happened to them........ so i went the ASR route.

i used to have that setup. awesome, just awesome. i also had an itr front sway, koni sports, eibach pro-kits, omni front camber kit, ingals rear (the good one not the washers), powerslots, axxis metal masters, and ss brake lines all around................pure sex. damn i miss that car.
oh yeah. it had a 98 itr swap with 22k miles on it too.
now i really miss the car
