Default First indication that a clutch is going bad?

Thought I felt some funkiness in the clutch this morning on my drive to work (either that or I was still asleep). What is the first indication (what will it feel like) when a clutch is going bad?

A way to tell if the clutch is slipping is to put the car in 3rd gear from a dead stop, from moderate RPMS drop the clutch, if the car starts to move=bad clutch, if the car stalls the clutch is not slipping. However if it acually feels funny IE:feels stiff/or grabby when engaging it you could have other problems in there.

As long as the clutch wasnt just glazed over then one of the first indications is a high engagement point.

Next time you are in your car, gently tap the clutch (moving or staying still, it doesn't matter) and see if there is any free play before you get resistance. If the pedal does not have any play at all and just gets stiff right away, then this is a good indication that it is on it's last legs. If the engine revs but you dont really go anywhere then it is definitely on it's way out. HTH.

another way to check is when cruising on highway in 5th, then give it some gas and see how the rev and speed goes. If both rev and speed goes up proportionally, that means the clutch is good. If rev goes up but speed just goes up a little, the clutch is bad. 5th gear is where the clutch slip first before it slips in other gears (which maybe too late and scratch the flywheel).

That's the best way to check. My old GTI would do the same if goosed in 5th - revs go up, speed stays the same

I can get going from a dead stop in gears 1-4...does this mean my clutch is bad?

Greetings fellow austin, texan.
Yes, get on the highway doing about 4K RPM or less in 5th gear. press accelerator to the floor, and if the RPMs jumps up a few 100 rpms and then drops back down, your clutch is just starting to slip. If it slip more than a few 100 rpm and takes a while to drop back then your clutch is rather bad. If you gas it and the rpms continue to rise without any real acceleration, you're about to blow your clutch..

find a [steep] hill, put it in 4th at like 10mph, then floor it. if your car does not climb the hill but the engine gains revs, your clutch is slipping.

So what was the outcome? Bad clutch or bad hangover?

Who knows, but i was worrying about my clutch to. It seams to be fine though according to these post of infications. I have 42k on my near stock ITR.

How much does it cost to get it replaced at the dealer and whats the best way of going about it, like is there any loopholes to have the warranty take care of it
My friend said that he got it clutch replaced from warranty several times.

On a stock clutch I come to a complete stop and see how far the pedal comes up before it starts to pull. If it is pulling near the top usually a bad clutch. I also smell it burning most of the time when I get out of the car.

My clutch always has high engagement points. But it all fluctuates on how I use it, it raises itself after some hard driving. However, I tried the 3rd gear and 5th gear test and passed them all. The engagment point can be ajusted too...

Mine car was making a clicking noise after shifting into gear and releasing the clutch from time to time about 6 months before the clutch crapped out on me.

When mine crapped out, it chattered and was hard to get into gear because one of the pieces of metal that goes around the outside of the spring broke off and was lodged between the two metal surfaces, scraping up my friction material and a bunch of other stuff. Pics would describe this better
