Default Hondabond ?

I went to the dealership to get a new valve cover gasket. Anyway I needed to pickup some hondabond. It cost around $20 which seemed kind of expensive for a sealer. Anyway my question is would permatex be just as good ?

Permatex grey works well but tends to dry out of over time. This subject was covered recently.

I work at a honda dealership and wondered the same things so i asked one of the techs there and he said RTV silicon sealant will work just as well. I still ended up buying the hondabond in the end as I am a honda genuine parts ***** plus i got it for like 12 bucks.
