I was at a shop in Dallas (I live in Arkansas), getting my bros g35 dyno'd, and the guy working there thought I was crazy for even driving around Dallas in the R. He said three had been stolen recently in the area. He also said 1 out of every 3 has now been stolen, is this true?


BTW, shop was Matchless Performance(I think), used to be Velocity. 45 bucks for three pulls not too bad. They do hondata, anyone here have any work done by them? They had three vipers, several supras, hondas, 240's, and a 240 with a RB25 sportin' some hubcaps, pretty sick.

I don't think anyone know for sure, but I'd say 1/3 is a good ballpark estimate.

 

1 out of 3 seems pretty excessive, considering that we all know how much were made.

We would also need to know how many attempts are made. Is this 1 out of 3 each month, week, day... hour? Or is this just a straight up 1 out of 3?

I would guestimate it's more like 1 in 12

 

With 3850 being sold in U.S. market, 1 out of 12 would be 320 or so stolen, that sounds a little low, I was thinking 1 out of 5 when the guy told me that, which would be 770 stolen R's.

Some areas are worse than others, many Rs have been rebuilt after they were stolen, some have been stolen more than once and retrieved. 1/5 sounds like a good number, but we are just all guessing here. I'm sure insurance companies have a better idea.

Also how many have been written off in an accident?

I agree, depends on location and personal habits. FWIW I had my 01 for a year and a half, with no alarm and no garage. Call it luck or whatever, you just have to take on certain tasks to ensure your car will be there in the morning and even that is no guarentee.

 

Looking at what these insurance bandits charge me, 1 out of 3 seems about right.

Seeing a type R is almost like seeing a NSX. Thats hardly never.

 

If my car was stolen right now it would suck. But it's really going to hurt after I finally finish the carputer, HID retrofit, and all the other crap I'm pouring money and time into.

I see both cars every day.

 

No one knows the real answer. And compiling accurate statistics will be almost impossible. Since integra's all get lumped together in most insurance statistics.

Plus, the speculation as to how many have been destroyed is pure HOGWASH!.

What we do know, is that the cars get stolen at an alarming rate. And the thieves doing so, have demonstrated a willingness to go the extra mile to steal a Type R, both in the US and Canada.

That is the only tangible fact we have.


So the real moral to the story?

I have a better chance of seeing an exotic than an R.

 

I had two R and both were previously stolen. I rebuilt them, and one was stolen again. The one that remains had been stolen before it was stolen and rebuilt. That is three thefts on the four R that I've come across. They have some double victims of theft.

Seriously though. The above statement is an insult to ITR owners that were theft victims.

Saying that roughly 300 ITR's have been stolen since 1997 is an outrage. Not to mention R's that were stolen 2 and 3 times.

 

This will go in circles fellas. No one has hard stats on how many Rs have been stolen...let's just say many upon many and not try to lay down numbers.

I had 00' #1216, sold it after four months to a guy and it was stolen within 2 weeks.

I had '98 #303, and got rear ended by a truck. the shell sits in a local junkyard right now. one less R. When I get another one, I will make sure I have a secure place to store it, I don't want it to add to the statistics.
