Default Quiet exhaust?

I have a 5th Gen with the Tanabe Racing Medalion right now and its pretty dayam loud. The TRM sounds really nice and deep but it gets kinda crucial sometimes when I'm driving. I'm looking for something thats deep and fairly quiet but gets loud when you mash it. I think the mugen is alright but its kinda overpriced. I was wondering what exhausts you guys recommend and where I can find them for the cheapest price online (especially the mugen).

Greddy SP. I can hardly hear it until I step on the gas.

Yeah Greddy would probably be your best bet. Many 5th gen owners swear by the Greddy Evo.

I like my Thermal on my 4th gen. If you want something that's not very loud except for WOT & VTEC but has a deep mellow sound I think it would be a decent choice to consider.

I have the Thermal and it's relatively quiet. The Apexi WS is probably your best bet if you want the least amount of noise possible (after to stock of course).

Greddy quiet!?!? It's a total fart can. I have heard a number of aftermarket exhausts on Preludes and the only ones that I've heard that I'd call quiet are 1) Mugen, 2) Tanabe G-Power, and 3) Apex'i WS. I have also heard that Thermal is fairly quiet too, but have no personal experience to back that up.

I have the SP on my 4G. I must be going deaf at 18 years old then b/c I can barely hear it unless I'm accelerating.

Oops! Sorry, you didn't specify in your first post and the person after you mentioned the EVO - I've never heard an SP on a 'lude so I retract the comment when applied to that exhaust...

I've got the thremal and I absolutely love it. It is quiet and has a nice deep noise at 3-5k, and is about as loud as stock everywhere else.

you've got to consider that the turbo itself will greatly reduce the sound level of the exhaust. It will also require much less restriction to perform at it's peak. Since that is the case people seem to run N1s and TRMs a lot with FI setups. These will be loud though until you add the turbo. Thermal makes just their standard system for the 5th gen and a stealth and classic system for the 4th gen. None of these are optimum for turbo. The Apexi WS you are thinking of is a quiet exhaust and is nice for NA but will be bad with FI.

Tanabe Racing Medallion

You might want to post a seperate thread or search for previous threads about what exhausts are best with a turbo setup. Maybe the Forced Induction Forum might have good answers too. I don't know, I'm still NA

If your looking for a quiet exhaust with the highest possible gains, then your choice should be MUGEN. It's well worth the money.

if you want it to be really quiet, make sure you put in a test pipe...
