My 3rd and 5th gears are grinding as I shift into them on my EM1 with a JDM B16A 1 gen. Can someone please give me step by step instruction (or a link that has it) on how to repair them? How much would it cost and what kind of tools I will be needing!? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

If the transmission grinds going into gears, it's imo 99% of the time the synchromesh.
If your grinding gears, if you open up the transmission the copper looking rings with teeth might have wear on the teeth and round them down.
It's not a job for a kid to play with, if you've never worked on a transmision don't bother. You need a pres, lots of specs to get the gears/bearings in place and lots of past knowledge.
Take it to the transmission shop before you want to mess with it because it can cost you more if you start messing with it first.
synchro's go in pairs except 5th gear, 1/2, 3/4, 5. So looking at that, you might want to first get a quote on the cost of repair and if it's even worth it. Get a reputable transmission shop to replace the synchro's btw

Well if u dont mind skipping 3 and 5 gears while u drive u can get by for awhile but i wouldnt let it ride for months. its like if u had a nice cut on your arm and u just let it go for a few weeks and then it becomes infected and they have to amputate the arm. a simple taking care of the cut coulda avoided disaster. a synchro job now will avoid further damage to the trans

i absolutely hate the synchromesh cure-all response that I see all the time here. sychros are made of BRASS (a soft malleable metal) and they act as brakes for the gear that is spinning at a different rpm than the stationary synchro hub. Improper revmatching puts more stress and wear/tear on the synchros. After time they will wear out and they will fail. No 45 dollar synchromesh nonsense is going to add brass to those synchros. Get a honda service manual or a helms manual. (not a haynes, they suck) And it will tell you step by step how to do it. Don't rush and don't take shortcuts and you'll be fine. There are several tools that you'll need to do this. If you don't have this you'll need to buy them. This is why people usually just take it to a tranny shop. (I avoid cross-genders by all means)

a press? what? that's funny, i recently watched the omni man dvd (you know about the 200whp b16a) and no where on there did i see him press anything on the tranny rebuild of the dvd, and he went step by step, braking everything down.

just check yo seeif there is goldish color in ur transmission fluid those brass teeth are dog teeth and help slow the speed gears for the shift collar to go on. the speed gears ride on bearings when the collar shifts onto it. it locls and then spins th at gear on the counter shaft down to the pinion gear and out the final drive
