Since we have 93 octane in the Southeast how much does this affect our ability to run higher compression. What is octane really measuring anyway?
Hey active aero if your around any of the race tracks most stations there have 96 octane or 98 octane unlead though it may cost more but on ITR it runs perfect on 96 octane smooth as silk.
Though there some places here and there that do sell 94 octane still. Some of the old gas stations still sell it as it use to be std back in late 80's.

you are all so lucky. 91 is the max here.
octane is just 8 carbon atoms together. octane rating is used to tell you how much that particular fuel can be compressed in the engine befoe it spontaneously ignites. this is important because when gas ignites from compression rather than ignoiting from the sprak....you get knock and we all know what knock can and will do to the engine!! so in short octane tells you how much the gas can be compressed before it ignites
