Hey guys... I was wondering if you've heard of this type of problem before? I'm kinda of new to the civic, and haven't seen it happen like this in my other cars.

WHen I turn the car on, I see the lights flickering... kinda like if you're at a discoball, haha. And then when I start driving the car, the speedo goes CRAZY... it just fluctuates for no reason, almost like its a tach, but theres no tach.
When we used a voltmeter to read the battery,.... with the car off ,it would read 12.5 volts (normal), but with the car ON, it would fluctuate from BELOW 12 volts to 13.5... now why would it go below 12 volts? and why would the gagues go crazy like that?
On my other cars, when the alternator died, the battery light would just come on, and then everything would just run off the battery...
Do you think this is an alternator problem? Or something else? Also, I need to drive this car back to my home, which is about 40 minutes away... is it safe to do that on a disfunctional alternator?

really? Do you think you can shed some light on the ignitor? Like whats it do? and where its located? I don't really know about THAT part. thanks.
