2004 accord ex radio wont work
if anyone could tell me what the problem is with my radio in my accord i would appreciate it. i installed subs and amp in my 04 accord and i ran rca to the back speaker(ghetto yeah i know), i was planning later to actually run rcas to radio. anyways i have to 12 audiobahn aluminiums that are 6 ohm and dual voice coils i decided to run them parallel to pull more power and wired them wrong and when i turned on radio i could smell a smoke smell. my radio still displayed but no music was coming out. so i unhooked my rca and battery from my amp and back speaker. tried it again and could smell like an electrical fire and then my whole display on radio wouldnt even work. the fuse was blown so i put new one in and with my car off it keeps blowing fuses if i try to install one in the radio slot. all my subs and everything are out of my car now, and im wtihout a radio, so did my radio blow up or is something ont he display shorting out or what. what should i do, can anyone help?

First off, with car audio you do not want to be cutting corners.
Second, do not attempt Car audio installs if you do not know what the hell your doing.
RCA cables go from your Headunit to your Amp, not to your speaker... RCA cables are outputs from your headunit that provide the amp with a signal to send to your subs. I still am trying to figure out how the hell you wired your subs to your radio since you said that you were planning on wiring the RCA's to the radio later.

^^^ +1, wtf? why in the world would u cut corners? especially messing with car audio i honestly wouldnt be surprised if u fucked up your entire audio wireing. go to a pro. circuit city will do that **** for 60 bux as long as all the audio equipment is new. car audio places will do it pretty cheap too. dont cut corners thats a really really bad idea. and ya good luck with that i would take it to a car audio place and ask them to fix it its gonna probably cost u a **** load and your also probably gonna need a new head unit.
What he meant, and maybe he didn't say clearly enough for you guys to understand, is that he used line converters... It took the speaker level input of the rear speakers, converted them to line level (RCA), and then ran the RCAs to the amp. This kind of stuff has been around for a LONG time, and is used whenever RCA outputs are not available, like with OEM stereos.
jking22,
Your headunit is FRIED. There is something inside that is shorted out, which causes the fuse to blow as soon as you replace it. There's no way around it, your stereo is dead. For good. I don't see how rewiring the subs alone could have done it, since you'd only be moving a couple speaker wires around. You most likely wired something else wrong and shorted it out.

finally phildad knows what hes talking about. yeah i tried to parallel them and mistakenly hooked the wires to the amp wrong. but i figured it was fried but wanted some input on it to be sure from someone who knew. so what do u think i should do about it. get anew head unit? or could i get it repaired please feed back thanks man. give me some suggestions or ideas, by the way i didnt mess wtih any other wires except my speaker wires
well obviously you said fried for good, so is there any way to get a head unit without paying a lot. maybe ebay? or is there a way to put in aftermarket radio in my honda, it sucks cuz no radio at all and my ac and heat work but i cannot see the display to know what they are on. but obviously if i want to see that display im gonna have to get a honda radio unit. so maybe someone knows a site to get the unit , i can install it myself. i used to work at nissan making the dashboards for altimas so it is not hard. what should i do about this problem

Your best bet is to find a used one on ebay or something, but you'll have to wait to find a good deal. As you said, that's the only way you'll be able to see A/C display. You can install an aftermarket headunit in the storage unit below, in front of the shifter. It's probably the most common place to do so in 7th gens because of the OEM stereo layout.
I'm not familiar with the 7th gen stereos, so I don't know if there's any kind of output (besides speaker level) that can be used for RCAs.

Oh, and by the way,

I would hardly call anyone at Circuit City or Best Buy a "pro".

they may not be pros, but atleast for 60 bucks you get piece of mind because if they mess up they pay for it and they warentee their work for as long as u own the car so if anything ever ***** up they fix it for free.
I agree with you... to a point. To be hired in Circuit City's Roadshop, or Best Buy's equivalent Install shop, you wouldn't have to have any prior experience. Most of the guys that get hired to install all your audio equipment barely have any knowledge of audio equipment.
Case in point: A friend of mine comes to me, complaining about how his system had a "muddy" sound, and generally sounded no better than the stock audio equipment. Circuit City did the entire installation, the headunit, mids and highs, amps, and subs. I looked over everything, and this is what I found...
1) Only 1 voicecoil on each sub was wired. The subs had dual voicecoils.
2) They used bass blockers (these little capacitors) on the mids. Because of this, he had NO mid-bass whatsoever. Headunit and amps both had crossovers, but weren't used.
3) When I pulled the headunit out, some of the were loose in their shitty crimp connectors.
4) Remote wire was connected to constant power. Thus, the amps never turned off.
5) Each speaker in the front door was only held on by 2 screws.
6) To shorten the RCAs (I guess to make the install cleaner), the installer cut sections out and then crimped them back together.
Now, I know that not all Circuit City or Best Buy installers are this bad, but I've seen too many shitty installs come out of those places to EVER recommend anyone going to them.
