overflow tank bubbling???
i got a small prob here.when i drive my car hard it it seems to lose coolant and the over tak is bubbling.the bubbling is coming from the stem going though the tube.but i started my car looked for leaks and i didnt see any thing?anyone know how to solve this.

thats was happening to me to and it wasnt my gasket ummm it was a series of things umm one i changed the radiator cap and that helped but then my water pump went so ummm yea try a new water pump and from there go to your thermostat it might be stuck on close or sumthin but that wat i would do!!

Run a compression test, and pull your spark plugs. Sounds like a head gasket to me, too. What can happen is that the head gasket will begin to allow exhaust gases into the water jacket. Thus, the bubbling. The compression test should help to show which cylinder(s) are building compression in the water jacket. Pulling the plugs will also show which cylinder is "burning" coolant/water. The plugs will be very clean looking, rather than a healthy brown-ish color.

btw it only bubbles when i drive it hard.seems like a have a small leak but i dont see any where its been leaking.i cant see the head gasket leaking anywhere areound the block.it seems like im pusing it out of the motor.and when i get dont runing my car and its bubbling .my rad.is hot on the top.and kinda cold on the bottom?could this be the porb.bad rad?i wanna get this **** solved so i can put my turbo kit on.

I have seen this problem several times before, head gasget is the likely culprit.
You may not see water in the oil, or see smoke, smell coolant in the exhaust. The leak may just be a small "one way" between the cylender and the water jacket, causing excess pressure in the coolant system.
If you are loosing coolant and cant find a leak, this is probably the culprit. Do a compression check and look at the plugs. If one looks like it's steam cleaned...It probably is.

ive seen this happen to a couple of cars and they also ran perfect except for the overflow tank bubbling

Check your radiator cap, if pressure is not being kept inside the radiator, the boiling point will lower and the antifreeze could be boiling over.
Buy a pressure tester to make sure you don't have a leak. I would not be to worried about it. Unless you have low compression or see oil in your coolant or vice versa.

i think its the radatior!im going to have it cleaned.and see what happens.oh i just got new rad.cap sunday.i think the rad is prob taost its old and came off an auto civic
well zc already has low comp?but i know what u mean.

ok i ran it today, but i filled the over flow tank all the way up.drove it for a awhile then made a hard run and it didnt do it?i think i just need to have the rad. cleaned<<what i mean by that is take it to rad shop so they can take it apart and run the cleaning rods though the cores.then have complete systems flushed.then ill go from there.
fyi- i dont want to admit to myself i have to pull off the head.im dreading doing that.

Before you get into all that costly ****, if it isn't bubbling when it is cold, you are probably overheating. 1) Make sure your cooling fan is coming on. 2) Replace radiator cap. 3) Replace thermostat. If it still does it after that, check headgasket via compression test.
1. Run it 50/50 with glycol/water (coolant)
2. Check the thermostat, undo it and throw it in boiling water, if it opens it's fine, if not, it's dead.
3. Check for circulation, maybe a dead pump. Just start it up without a thermostat and tell me if it's circulating.
The fact that it's overheating the top and cold at the bottom tells me the circulation isn't good, it's either a stuck shut thermostat or a blow water pump

Compression test really won't show anything, if will show if its sealing around the cylinders but not the coolant holes.

x6, x7 and x8. seen it plenty of times, can't even tell where it's leaking until the head comes off. Hope thats not the problem but it is most likely.

You're right, sorry about that.

Mine bubbled over at an autocross when I had a bad thermostat AND my fan plug came disconnected. The car didn't completely overheat, but it was bubbling coolant like crazy. I know my motor is fine, it was rebuilt over the summer. Check the Tstat and the fan. If you do have a bad headgasket, it's really not a bad job to do. A new one is pretty inexpensive (oh my god, what's that in your sig downest!?), the worst part is getting the old one off and cleaning the block and head (and getting the head surfaced, which takes a little time).
