I'm looking to buy a 86 crx SI but I'm told the main relay is bad so the car wont start? motor turns over! but not fuel pump? does this sound right? the seller showed me the relay and the back had what looked like some burnt spots. and what would you all pay for a 86 crx primered black no carpet moon roof was bent up from being broken in to both front and rear bumpers loose and missing both front fenders! I'm just looking for something to get back a forth to work that I can tinker around with. the seller wants 350.thanks for the help.

 

Could be the relay. You can put in a jumper wire to bypass the relay for a quick test to make sure pump kicks on and motor starts before buying it.

A complete 86 with fenders, running wouldn't go for much more than $350 around here. Price in your area is always dependant on demand, but here, that car would be FREE to $100 max I was say.

what pins would i need to jumper to check and make sure its the relay? will the car run like that? I miss MD lived in DE for 6 years.

turn the key back and forth from off to on and maybe ull hear it click or even tap it with something sometimes, but to check if it works just turn key to on it will click, CEL will come on on the cluster and you will hear fuel pump, after fuel pump primes, ONE more click and CEL light goes away unlless its throwing a code

 

the thing is the fuel pump is not coming on at all. and how do I check to see if its throwing a code?

 

turn the key to on position so ur battery light and all that com on...lift up carpet on passengerside foot well and look at the light for how many blinks...search on here how to identify the blinks to tell u what code ur gettin

 

thanks that helps going to just buy the main relay and see if that work. and check for a code. that way I'm just out 40 bucks and not 400!
