Please help ...... is my engine TOAST?
The nut that holds my crank pulley on worked its way off while driving 60mph. It is a 94 Vtec model (obviously). I haven't opened up the engine yet and won't get to it for a while. Is is worth fixing or should I just part the car out? The exterior of the car, suspension, wheels, etc. are all in great shape. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave
I was driving at around 60mph, my engine made a weird noise and just kind of immediately lost power. Just as it happened, I quickly pushed in the clutch and coasted to the side of the road. As the clutch was disengaged and my car was rolling to the side of the road, the engine quietly died. I looked under the hood and found that the pulley from the crank to the power steering pump was off (not split, ripped.. just off to the side). Then I noticed the pulley from the crank to the alternator/ac compressor was cut down the middle longways, still around each pulley. Then I saw that the crankshaft pulley was a little cockeyed. The nut had worked its way off and the pulley was working its way off as well (not all the way off, but almost there). I'm hoping that there is just damage to the head (valves, etc.) My friend said I could use some garage space to take a look at it, but just wanted a heads up on what all to look for. Any help is well appreciated.

DH

Yeah thats what I thought.....Those damn things are torqued to hell. The car is actually at honda and they said....."yeah the nut must have worked its way off from all the vibration....blah blah....when this happens, (like it's a common thing) you pretty much need a new engine.....we can put one in labor and all for around $5100"
Haa haa .... what a joke. I'm hoping to fix the engine myself, but we'll see I guess
