confusion with piggyback systems...
i searched this... anyway, i've always been kinda confused about the ecu stuff. i know the hondata s200 is better than the apexi vafc, but my future plans are some itr cams, type r IM, bigger TB, maybe some cam gears... i have i/h/e and highflowcat.... if i got either one (s200 or vafc) would i need to get the obd1 ecu? or a chipped ecu? or would the chipped ecu not do much with these piggy-back systems? any help at all would be appreciated.. thanks guys.

On which car/motor are you doing this modifications to? If your doing it to a GSR, (assuming), you cannot run an itr intake manifold. The bolt pattern wont line up....BUT you can run a single stage manifold like the itr. Look into skunk2, jg, blox, aebs, jdmshit. As for your chipped ecu questions, if you want to run hondata, then yes you'll need to get an obd1 ecu that is socketed and hondata prepped. Then you get hondata and get your motor tuned by a professional. OR, you can run a chipped/socketed obd1 ecu with a base map for your set up in the mean time. You wont really see as much benefits by just plugging in a vafc.
ok, so a chipped obd1? or would that be useless... with the hondata, would i be able to control vtec engagement? which one would you suggest is better for my set up? thanks

you still havent told me what year car, motor, etc. Basically for hondata, your using a chipped/socketed ecu. With hondata, you can have your tuner set vtec to your likings, or have him set it to a point where your car makes the most power at.
ok sorry, i was replying before i saw you posted your comment. i have a 97 gsr, b18c1. i see you sell the socketed ecu's, i wrote your name and email down already. read all the great comments, so i'll definitely be coming to you in a few weeks when i go ahead with this.

in order to run a chipped ecu or any obd1 ecu, you'll need to purchase an obd2-1 version A (obd2A-1) ecu conversion harness. It depends whats in your price budget. You can either run a premade base map with a chipped ecu until you can afford hondata/tuning session. If you want to learn how to do the tuning yourself, I'd recommend looking into uberdata/neptune/crome
