DOHC ECU is 1 long blink meaning 10 and 6 short in this case meaning 16. SOHC ECU is just short blinks ( no long blink) that you just have to count carefully couple of times. I had a SOHC ( PM6) now DOHC (PR3). I have had experience with both ECUs. Someone correct me if Iam wrong though

<- PM5 - 16 short blinks.
I think people arguing about how the ECU displays the code is besides the point, and is a rather stupid argument.
original poster, I searched for "CEL codes" on h/t and managed to find scans of the Helms manual with a flow chart to help you troubleshoot the problem. They first have you check wiring, and then the injectors.
This could be a VERY easy problem to fix. It was for me.

it's right, my VSS code was 17 flashes. But I wouldnt say DOHC, because d16a1 are short blinks too i believe. I would say pr3/pw0 are long/short blinks and maybe even pr4 (not sure on pr4). but definately pm6 only does short flashes (first hand experience).

now for the actual question here.. 16 blinks = injector code.
1. check physical wiring how does it look
2. check resistor box wiring
3. check continuity from each injector to it's ecu wire location. then check for loose grounds (specficially the thermostat ground).
4. with engine running take a long screw driver and put the metal tip to the body of the injector and the handle do your ear (actually touch your ear). You should be able to hear the open/closing of the injectors resonating through the handle. what you're looking for here is similar sounds from each. if you find one has a very different sound then get a new one. This car is DPFI right? I'm not sure if both injectors are the same 240cc but you can find that out later, point is if one sounds funky replace both.
5. if they both sound the same (click click click click click) then try removing them and inspecting for debris in the little filters on the top of each one, and possibly replace the fuel filter. follow the manual for removing injectors so you dont get fuel everywhere.

Code 16 from Helms :

Please check the FAQ next time. After you do all of these things (I'd also check the fuel filter) then let us know.
FYI, on DPFI the top and bottom injectors are different. They are NOT interchangable. Keep this in mind if you need to replace one.
