Front brakes on 95 Accord ... pressed on rotors, slide hammers ... empty wallet?
'95 EX KA4AT F22B1 @ 170,xxx miles
Steering wheel shaking quite a bit when braking hard from highway speeds. Pads are about 50% worn. Rotors seem to have slight grooves in them when felt by hand. Otherwise braking seems fine, no squeaking.
I bought front pads and rotors before I found out how expensive and time consuming it would be to replace them! A friend who works at a repair shop told me that the rotors are pressed on, which means that you need some kind of machine to take it off or spend hours hitting it with a slide hammer? Unlike replacing his car (93 DeVille), which took two bolts and less than an hour to replace everything. I was able to find good deal on the parts but he said labor will cost arms and legs!
My concerns:
What exactly does it mean when they say the rotors are "pressed" on?
About how much money should I reasonably expect to pay for a professional (private repair shop and/or dealer) to replace the pads and rotors? (My friend said at least $400...)

technically it is hub over rotor because you have to remvve the wheel hub to get the rotor off (A big PITA). Simplest way to solve the problem if you have 15" wheels is to do a V6 brake front transplant (it mioght even be cheaper too)
All you have to do is get 2 V6 knuckles complete with rotor and calipers and bolt them right on.
my car is at 143K and I just replaced the pads last time around.
I'd put the estimate closer to $500 myself

First, did you measure th thickness of the rotors? Can they be refinished? If not not a problem. Just remove the caliper assembly (Completely) Seperate the lower ball joint. Remove the axle. Remove the 4 bolts securing the rotor to the hub (In front) Remove the 4 bolts securing the hub to the suspension (Sometimes
TORX, ) in back of the rotor. Drive out from the rear with a good punch and out it comes. Really easy once you do it.
