I searched, and found nothing...
whats the ideal weight for tranny fluid for a b16 manual transmission. I'm looking at redlines line of fluids.

hondas take lighter weight transmission fluid (NOT 80w or 90w). They take like 10w30 or 10w40 or 5w30 i believe. I just use GM Synchromesh friction modified and its great!
expletive GM Syncromesh.
I used 2 qts of GM Syncromesh "friction modified" when I did my B16 swap, I didn't know any better so I thought it was okay. Well when I swapped in my GSR block, I used Mobil 1 5w30 and it's WAY better. Not only that but it's a lot cheaper.

Ive used pennzoil snycromesh, honda mtf and 10w30 oil..Pennzoil has worked the best and got rid of the 3rd gear grind (or should I say, covered it up)..

simple answer, short version: everyone that i have talked with, ie friends, mechanics, people who have raced them for 25 years, say it is really bad. read what the honda manual suggests. do what you want. if you dont have the 25+ years of experience, ask someone who does. i do, and i get the same answer EVERY TIME.

That still doesnt explain why its bad.. ??

I'd love to hear why it's "so bad" considering MTF hasn't been out for that long. What like 98/99? I've been in the game before that. If engine oil is ok in the tranny, then I'd LOVE to hear why synthetic would be "bad" for it.
I'd like to know why as well.
AMSOIL last summer came out with MTF that specifically cites it as a direct replacement for Honda MTF as well as several other OEM MTF fluids. Including the GM synchromesh part numbers.
