Rod knocking??

How do i tell if i have a rod knocking or if it is the bearing in the alternator

a rod knock will sound like there is someone in your motor trying to get out with a hammer

a bad bearing in the alternator will sound more like a grinding noise

And if you still aren't sure, just take the belt off of the alternator and then start it. Shouldn't have to come to that though.

I had to take the belt off and start it.... heh it ended up being the alternator didn't have enough clearence because autozone sold me the wrong belt. It was rubing up on the timing belt.
