Default 1994 Full folding rear seats project.

Okay. So I wanna make it so I can fold down both of my rears seats. How? Well by using parts from another folding seat, installing them on the left rear seat and some how attaching the center peice to it. I also have the cut out that metal panel between the trunk and the rear seatbacks. Will this have any detramental effect on the safety and rigidness of the car? I would hate to accomplish this and then start having the cars body go to hell in a hand basket. I mean Honda is a pretty smart company, so if there is a reason other that "oh we didn't think of it" I'd like the know.

Oh and the reason I want to perform this task is: So I can fit my surfboard in it... Yep. LOL. And also because I think I can do it.

Oh and yes I know there are removable (soft) racks, but I don't know how sturdy one would be on a Lude with a 6'4 board flappin in the wind. (Saw one on a Civic though...hmm)

Yes yes if this pulls thru for you I would LOVE a writeup of some sort, I only go snowboarding by my self since It doesnt fit thru the little hole we have and my board.....7'2 just wont fit anywhere. So I would greatly enjoy seeing how this works for you.

Okay, It'll be in about 3-4 weeks, till I get all the tools, gear, and map it out. But I will surely do a thorough write-up, and gallery.

Yea that engine compartment is one heck of a clusterfu*k. Just like they closed there eyes and hot-glue gunned everything in on the prototype. The 4th gen in an odd-bird all around, but I do love it... plus I couldn't afford a 5th.

i am actually in the process of doing this exact same thing....i think it can be done with about $30 in materials from home depot

i snowboard too so i just took out my back seats and put in some custom carpet in it's place...again from home depot...but now that summer is coming back around i wanted to put the seats back in and still have the functionality.

The beam you are talking about does not have to be cut out...it bolts in and all it does is hold the seat backs in place. I bought some large folding brackets from home depot and am going to try to find a way to attach them to the seat backs and the floor pan going into the trunk.......i also bought a gate style latch that i am going to mount on the opposite side where there is no latch so that it will have the same locking effect. The only problem i see is the center piece....it will not fold unless you cut it and i really don't want to cut anything....i may just end up with 2 folding seats and a solid center....but that is still much better than the tiny hole they gave us in the one seat

Not to sure I wanna use housing parts. I wanna stick with as many prelude parts as possible. This weekend I am going to take it all apart and see whats what. I'll prolly have to put my surfboard in diagonal, I dunno. I don't wanna say much more untill this weekend when I take it apart. I'll be back on sat or sun with a battle plan.

the bottom part of the middle peice will have to be cut in order to fold it, that would require some custom upholstery

i just took out the whole bracket so i can fold the left side down, then just take the whole right side back out....a quick release of sorts

Basically replicate the passanger side rear seat , and make it fit on the drivers side...then cut the middle piece and have it upholstered. Then run some type of bar/beam to connect all. Have the latches linked together...so it would all fold down together. Would be a nice little project...

wtf are you talking about? you have to use a bracket for them to fold on if you take the beam out.....i dont understand how you think you are gonna do this project with just "prelude parts."

have you ever been in a home depot? it's not all "housing." a metal bracket is a metal bracket regardless of where it comes from...same thing with the latch....you are gonna have to fab it somehow....where exactly do you think you are gonna buy this stuff.....you are gonna have to use your imagination and take your time to make it look good

I would really like to see a write up of this since I've always had this idea but never put it to function. Good luck.

Before I mess anything up this weekend... what is the easiest way the get the left one out without messing anything up. I don't have a helms, so I'd sit there starting at it like a retard doing a math problem.

lol, chill out spaz... What I mean by that is to canibalize the folding parts from another prelude. Instead of using fence latches, I wanna use the same trunk-style latch that is on the right side. Furthermore; I like ANTHONYG'S "Have the latches linked together...so it would all fold down together. Would be a nice little project..." Idea as well. It may save some greif.

you could probably use a latch out of another lude, but the one i have uses the same basic principle...i would just have to attach a strap to it and pull up like the other one......the only problem with using one from another lude is that you would have to cut and reweld the bar that it latches to.....my latch "kit" has a bar with 2 holes to bolt or screw into....so no welding

if you really plan on going as far as cutting and reupholstering the center....then i would just take them all of the top pieces and have them sewn together into one big piece that will fold all at once....because regardless upholstering is $$$

then you could probably just use the one latch that is already there....but you are still going to have to make or buy some folding brackets to mount them on

I'll do my own uphostery. Dude, you don't understand how stubborn I am. I am krafty as hell. I will find a way to do it. Whether I have to sew the ***** together myself or what.

What is SRS?

Ya know, maybe your right. Home Depot has got some alright junk over there, maybe they can be of use. Those seats where esier to get out than I thought. Upolstering them wont be too hard.
