Default homemade intake manifold vs. Edelbrock victor x

well I got arownd to swaping intake manifolds and see what it would do on the dyno. So here are the results.

Both runs at 20 ish psi boost

Red line => my homemade intake manifold with 80mm Q45 tb
Blue line => Edelbrock Victor x with 65mm tb

hmm.... time for a new desighn, hmm.........

Once I saw the difference in the mid range, I didn't even bother to rev it higher cuz im not willing to sacrifice midrange for top end power.

Nice work man

Another couple pounds of boost will make up for that minute loss in top end HP

Those midrange gains are SICK though!!!

The reason the power difference was probably made was the upgrade from the 65mm TB to the 80mm TB.

Very Impressive results. Is that a Ross Machine Racing Plenum half round stock? Did you modify it at all to add a tapper from the throttle end to the last cylinder? Also, what velocity stacks did you end up going with?

Regards,
Justin

Yes thats the Ross Machine Racing plenum. I did cut it and taper it from the t/b to the last cyl. The velocity stacks I used are from a company in Australia, and the size was 48mm, if I remember right.

Maybe I am blind but why are you running soo lean?

Also if you are comparing two different things, the tuning should be equal on both.. not a 1-2 point AFR change between them. IDK if it is just me, but it would be more accurate if they were both tuned to the same point.

But anycase it won't effect it that terribly much. The gains are there, that is what matters.

Plenum Design reminds me a lot of the full-race s2k prototype unit:

Im gonna say

http://www.velocity-of-sound.com

Ive ordered from them before and a its a very nice product. The only thing is they use very thin (like 20 guage) aluminum and the stacks are only really good for the inside of the plenum. Not a bad thing but I wouldnt try to support a plenum with them. Perhaps a well braced plenum would allow you to use the stacks as runners as well without worry.

Nice gains there.

Isn't the idea to have a large plenum??? Seems from the pics that you made the plenum pretty small.

Those are not the same plenum....

I have seen the pic that shows the inside of the plenum before on another build your own intake manifold page.... I call BS. Not hating just don't believe that it is your own....

WHy is that? To me it looks like he has modified the original roos plenum to give it the nice taper. ALso you should have sticked your v stack out a bit more, good gains tho .

That full race prototype its just like a copy of the greddy supra intake.

I can say that I never seen that s2k manifold before. nice design,

if i do make another one, I will have to make the plenum a bit bigger.

i would really try and re-dyno the car with tuning it for each intake manifold, the dyno pull with the victor x seems to run really lean.
