the grinds tend to be much worse when trans fluid is fully warmed up and thinner. cold fluid seems to be enough sometimes to keep it from grinding. change the bearing you are ruining the transmission.

well, when they get bad enough it can cause grinding. I fixed a 97 civic one time that had gotten so bad it popped out of gear, grinded and was almost undrivable. it had about a quarter inch play in the shaft when I wiggled it

The bearing itself can grind, but it won't cause your gears to grind.

typically no.

I like that answer better, because I have experienced otherwise on two seperate occasions/vehicles.

Replace it. If that doesn't do the trick, it's your syncros.

a new tranny for a 40 dollar bearing? youd have to go through the same labor anyway to put a new trans in.. come on get the bearing and throw it in..and no bad input shaft bearings cannot cause gears to grind
