gears wont go in
sup guys im new around here and i was looking for some advice on why my gears wont go in its a new swap b16a tranny cable but everything has been bolted in properly but the gears wont go in when the car is on they will go in when the car is of. i tried cranking it with the gears in but that won't work either. I know it may be the clutch so do you know any reputable shops around southern cali that would do it for cheap i already have the clutch just need the install. thanks
If you just did the swap, the clutch is a fairly straightforward process, might as well just drop the transmission and do it yourself.
I suggest tightening the clutch cable maybe? Past that I am not sure.

yeah it wont go in when the engine is running .... but they go in with ease when its off.. i tried cranking it with it in first gear but it won't turn over..and about the fluid .. it has some in there ..
Hello,
I just went through the same crap on my jdm b16a w/y1 sir tranny and came up with the following:
1) As others already stated ensure your clutch cable is adjusted correctly, here is how you check it.
a) go to the cable adjuster nut under hood, shake or pull the cable....if it is very lose, tighten it with the adjuster nut.
b) If cable is tight, have someone sit in car and push down on clutch pedal. While you observe the cable at the tranny note how far the shift lever on the tranny moves. If car still won't go into gear with cable adjusted..do the following:
c)go back to the shift lever on the tranny and pull up on it with one or two hands, I do mean pull with much effort until the lever suddenly goes up alittle more. At this time you have just disengaged clutch from the engine.
d) if however, your cable is doing the same when it pulls the clutch lever on the tranny, then chances are your clutch is shot.
*Note* Trust me on this, try pulling up on the tranny lever yourself to test my theory and ensure your clutch cable is adjusted to do the same.
I have installed brand new racing flywheel, clutch kit etc. and when all is done, car wouldn't go into gear as you have stated before. I ended up doing the lever test and adjusted my cable to compensate.
Hope this works for your situation.....

Your clutch isn't done...
People, if you can't start the car in gear your clutch is engaged and is putting to much stress on your starter to spin the engine.
Poeple saying the clutch is gone...idiots.
The cable is key with EF trannies. Good to see you fixed it tho.
