Default The cheap accord cat-back exhaust.... part 2

https://honda-tech.com/zero...02341

was the original thread...

wife's vehicle finally has a rusted out exhaust system. I contacted them directly via email/phone (cause I don't like eBay).

They agreed to a decent price of $179.oo shipped to my door! (via UPS ground)

when it arrived 1 week later , 1 of the gaskets were crushed during shipment, but they shipped me a whole new set of bolts/gaskets for no extra charge! (via USPS Priority Mail)

Great Customer Service & relatively quick email replies!

i'm waiting till warmer climate weekend to install this/ no rush since she got until sept for inspection.

some email replies:

just for the heck of it "will this pass NJ inspection requirements? is this item 50-state legal? Not loud?"

We do apologize but we do not know if it will pass or not because our systems are not tested like that. We do not have a DB rating for our system. We did not hear anything from our customers about the exhaust having trouble. </TD></TR></TABLE>

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> To be frank with you, our price for the catback is posted at a very minimal margin and the shipping and insurance is to offset the loss (on eBay). It is a way that some other competitors are doing on ebay and unfortunately we must play the same game in order to look competitive. If you look at the total price with shipping, you will see that we are the lowest price out there for the same quality products. But do not be confused with others that are cheaply manufactured. The manufacturer that makes these catbacks are ISO approved. Our catbacks are manufactured with precision and quality first. People that have order these catbacks have returned to purchase more because of the very good price and quality of the catbacks (shops only).

Please call 510-717-1818 monday to friday from 9-5pm pacific time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

since the original poster had no fitment issues, I got this system based on his & other peoples' testimonies about their product.

a longer-life exhaust system is a + for me in the Northeast.

After finally having the time to install this on April 18, 2006, there's a major problem with one of the pieces of this system:

The "s" middle pipe w/ the flex coupler towards the front intermediate pipe is bent too short (laterally).

This causes the front pipe to be off from the center alignment & towards the passenger side of the vehicle.

this also causes the rear pipe/muffler assembly to be dangerously close to the fuel tank!!!!

and the muffler exiting the bumper is out @ an angle. is this normal?
-----------------------

after installing this & seeing that the pipe/flanges touching the fuel tank, i immediately went to an exhaust shop to get a confirmation that the s-pipe
is indeed bent too short laterally... which they agreed. They temporarily remedied this problem by bending some of the hangers, but i'm still afraid
that it'll hit the fuel tank again.

please give me the measurements of that s-pipe & i'll physically go under the car once again to verify that this is just an isolated incident & not a bad
mandrel-bending job from the manufacturer. Or, if you can send me another middle s-pipe, I'll be happy to exchange this defective one.
----------------------
This is a bit loud for my wife's &kids' daily driver during acceleration. But, in cruising highway speeds, it does quiet down... i'll see what the long-term
experience would be since i'm not the primary driver on this vehicle.

Your product should be geared for "the fast 'n furious folks" or "ricer" kids that want to sound fast... I got it for the relatively cheap stainless steel to
prevent buying another system in another 10 years or so (rust in the Northeast region). It would be more marketable if it has a more aggressive resonator.

Thanks again for your prompt responses & service from the past.

Sale3</TD></TR></TABLE>

bah, i didn't know that muffler was going to look like that from the bumper!

ya, i didn't really researched it that much... if i knew it woulda sit like that out of the bumper, i wouldn't have gotten it

but the sound is acceptable, not like those bumblebees-in-a-coffee-can sound... as described by the original poster in that other thread.

What's up dude? I got your message and since I've had mine on (about six or so months I guess?) I've only had ONE small and very fixable problem.

The rattling was still there but only at very low RPMs when engaged. The problem is a exhaust hanger that was about midway in the car. It was actually against the exhaust. Fix? Pull it away from the car.

Unfortunately, I ended up chopping off one of the exhaust hanger towards the passenger wheel well thinking that it was causing me problems when in fact, it was my fault. I believe because that peice is missing, I'm not getting that whole "bent" feeling that you're getting. So try this.

Are you SURE that it is rubbing against the fuel tank and not the exhaust shields on the bottom of the car? Try removing the exhaust flange thingy ma bobber on the forward part of the rear passenger wheel. It should free up a little bit.

That flex coupling is made to flex so bend that little S.O.B. a little bit.

That whole muffler being at an angle is pretty cool and actually makes it look more JDM to me. I wasn't going for it but the more I see it, the more I like it. I've had guys give me mad props for it. Told them how much I paid for it and they were stunned.

The sound issue can be resolved with the silencer that you should've gotten. I find the car only loud when above 3500 RPM (since gas prices are going up again, I've been shifting anywhere between 1750 and 2750). Don't get on the gas if you don't need it.

You can notice a slight degree of power loss with the silencer in (I think I can at least) but the DB level is CRAZZZZYYYY high without it. Long drives without the silencer SUUUUUCCCCKKKKKKSSSSOOOOORRRRR (14 hours worth of it). Keep the silencer in and keep the RPM's low.

BTW: this exhaust sounds a helluva lot better than 90% out there. I'm very happy with it and I know I got my money put in a good exhaust. That guy is so frickin cool about getting to you too.

Hope this helps you out man. You got a helluva deal too.

i had no issues w/ an exhaust hanger touching heat shields. confirmed by exhaust shop. i was lucky on that part

it's def not this- confirmed by exhaust shop- it's the s-pipe w/ flex coupler...

it's bent to a slight extreme... shop agrees that pipe is a bit too short laterally, but didn't wanna turn it purple by heating and rebending it. I'm waiting for a reply on the seller so I can confirm that maybe i got a bad bent pipe from the factory...

yea, i didn't buy it for the JDM-ness, just for the stainless-steelness 2 a very good price!

yup, i never removed the silencer... it should have been more aggressively silenced a tad more, but as i've said, it's not a ricer's can of bees kinda sound...
