Hey guys just needed some input....I am planning to run about 11 pounds of boost..Wanted to do a bottom end rebuild, def going for some h-beam rods, any comments on sticking with stock pistons and a really good tune, or should I do pistons too, because honestly cost is an issue. Anyways, would appreciate all the feedback I can get. Thanks

 

look into the suzuki vitara pistons if cost is such an issue... PM FJT on here. He sells them for about 100$
You'll need to use pistons that have floating wrist pins if you use H beams. this means that stock pistons will not work.

Honestly though, if you are going turbo you should have enough money aside for problems... Costs can skyrocket very easily and your car might be sitting off the road for a long time if you don't have the money! My build was over 1000$ more than expected when I first started...

 

If you are going to only run 11psi why even build the block at all?

I ran 12psi on my stock d16z6 for a year and didn't have any problems. Just install a good clutch and some ARP head studs.

If you are going to build the engine, definately replace the pistons and the rods. Don't just do the rods. In my experience, the ringlands are one of the first things to go, even before the stock rods.

If you replace the pistons and rods, you might as well run at least 14psi or more.
