B16a Y1 Tranny Guru Needed, have a few questions after swap.
Hello,
I recently swapped in a JDM B16a with Y1 cable tranny into my 91 4dr sedan. All went well except for the tranny won't shift. Before installing the engine, I replaced the flywheel with a 8lb one, and stage 2 clutch assembly with new throw out bearing.
Currently, the shift lever on the tranny will only move approx. 1 inch. No matter what type of clutch cable I get, it's too short. All clutch parts that went into this swap go to 90-91 integra. I think the throw out bearing is either binding or obstructed in some way. Anyways, I will have to drop the tranny to have a look
Has anyone ever seen a situation like this before? Clutch jobs are supposed to be easy. I've done many of these and never seen this situation before. Would appreciate if any cable tranny gurus could offer some input here...thanks.

In order to make a clutch cable work on this tranny, had to put two hose clamps together so the cable end is attached to the tranny shift lever. However, in this case the tranny shift lever only moves about an 1inch, I'm beginning to suspect the throw out bearing is obstructed in some way.
Even if I purchased the wrong clutch parts, they naturally wouldn't bolt up to the b16a, correct?

What an interesting way of hooking up your clutch cable and a bit scarey. It shouldnt require any of that. I can change a clutch cable in about 3 minutes, lol. That should tell u how easy it SHOULD be.

I Agree with you. I've worked for Honda down in atlanta, GA. for a few years. We never came across any honda swaps though, only stock cars. Ofcourse we are talking about the higher class neighborhoods in that area, they don't mod thier cars like that. We did find alittle coke in the ash tray though a few times that's about it.
Anyways, don't actually know why stock clutch cables appear short on certain b16 swaps. I didn't take any short cuts and used better parts over stock. However, once the cable went on, there is free play like a normal cable, and i can adjust the plastic nut to get the right tightness. The clutch pedal feels smooth, and the car shifts fine now.

Hmm i hear ya. I havent encountered a clutch cable issue yet in my time working with Hondas. The only thing i can think of is, compare the clutch cable bracket (thats mounted on the tranny) with one off a USDM 90-93 integra. I have a 92 YS1 (usdm) with a new Honda '89 civic cable. Works perfect.
