its not a speed sensor in a crx, it is a bad speedo cable. If it is a stock cluster in your Rex it has a cable....................................and yes the cables do go bad.

Check by the back of the trans, they do pop out sometimes. Also its the big round clip on the back of the cluster, make sure its popped in.

Gotta pull the gauge cluster out and slide it through the firewall. Its not that hard.

The clip in the center of the brass slides out. Then it should pull apart. I have never seen one that messed up. The guts of the tranny are on it

i may be wrong when i say this but the electronics VSS's started showing up when cars went obd-1, i could be wrong when i say this..but i'm gonna guess the older integras 86-89's had the cable driven VSS...the EF crx/civic had a cable driven VSS for sure and the civic cable vss shouldnt be hard to get a hold of..

i ran into this same problem last night. my speedo cable snapped inside the hole where you insert the cable. there was a little stub that you could barely see while shining a flashlight down the hole. what i did to grab it was use a small rubber tube with a diameter small enought to fit it snug and then i yanked it out careful. hope this helps. i didnt' have to remove the whole speedo gear assembly, my cable just snapped.

OMG!! when i was replacing the cable a piece of it broke inside, so i tried to pull out the cable from the cluster and pulled it out but there is still a piece of cable stuck inside. is there a way i can get it out?

i tried to use to new cable and push it out but no luck. -_-
