Default Gripe about Honda vs. Acura parts pricing.

I'm putting in a new Clutch/Flywheel/Pressure Plate, and went to Acura to buy a new Throwout bearing. List at Acura for my car is 59.xx. I get like 10% off at Acura parts... Boo. I walked across the street to the Honda Parts (where I get 20% off) and the same part number (out of a '95 Del Sol Vtec) was $50.xx list.) Same part number everything. I bought both of them to compare, they are Identical. I just don't understand... Am I missing something here? Gotta get a little gripe on. Thanks...

It depends on how the dealer has the pricing set up in the computer.
There's a SUGGESTED list which Honda supplies all dealers, and then there's an inflated list price where dealers sometimes try to nail people to make more percentage.

The part number was 22810-P21-003, I presume?
Suggested retail as per Honda of America is $50.32

Part number is correct. I checked the price, and it was listed at $50.32. I was just a little perterbed at the whole situation. I'm gonna have a little talk with the parts manager at Acura after I'm done with this project. When I return the part from Acura. The un-knowledgable shopper could really get hosed here.

you can complian, but they wont change it. They have a right to inflate the price of the part just liek you have a right to shop elsewhere. Most places have a slight increase to cover shipping, but in this case, thats alot of shipping. Most places are 5-10%

What irks me is that the two parts counters aren't more than 100 yards from each other, across the parking lot. I realize it's a free market and all that good stuff, but an 18% markup over suggested retail is rediculous. For my Acura specific parts, I may have to start going to a different dealership... I'll see how my little discussion goes. Man, even if I get my 20% off like I'm hoping for, that's still only 2% off MSRP... Assuming of course they mark up all their parts 18%.

Hey Mike K, can you tell me what MSRP is for a 2002 TL-S bra? I bought one of those from my Acura dealer this weekend as well, I think I got a good price, but I"m not sure.

Thanks for the venting here guys...

It's the same here in my area. Acura charges more than Honda.

Backwards where I am. Honda charges 10-15% more than Acura, seems like. Same company owns both dealers, too. Hmm.

Why don't you buy stuff online? There are a few good sites that sell all OEM honda/acura parts cheap if you know the part number.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I"m all about the lowest price, but alot of times, I need the parts like same day, or the next day for projects I'm doing, and I don't have the luxury of waiting, or paying next day shipping for stuff, being in Cali and all... But for sure, in the future when I forsee a need for parts, I'm gonna give Naples a call. We need a Naples in Nor-Cal! For my bra, I paid $120+ tax, but that was cause the GM came back to the parts dept, and told them to give me the special 'internal' rate... The more I read, the more upset I get at my parts department. As a side note, I love the dealership. Great guys, just the parts counter isn't so good... I need a or 20...

Hey Mr. Reefer_Bob...if you're talking about the Acura dealership in Fairfield...stay away from them, they are nothing but idiots. IGGY was complaining about a grinding when shifting into 5th gear...cool, it's the syncros...they replace it under warranty, well when the reinstalled the tranny they forgot to install one of the three large bolts on top, within ~1000 miles the 2-3 shift was making noises, he brings is back to them and they don't even give him the time of day...he requests to have an appointment with the Regional Service Manager...after 3 months he still hadn't seen the Regional Service Manager. He calls Acura and the next time he goes in their the kissed his ***...a bunch of idiots.

Yea, it's Solano Acura (Hopkins Auto Group). That's why I said, their parts department is crap. The GM, and sales force are all real good guys. The service department is marginal in my opinion. They've done pretty well for me so far, but far from perfect.
