Default clunking noise when going over bumps or turning semi-hard

I have a 92 gs-r and 3 days ago i noticed a clunking noise coming from under the car when i went around turns semi-hard and when i was going down a bumpy gravel road. I spent yesterday and today after work under the car trying to figure out what the hell the deal was. I recently got new tires and an alignment ( about 250 miles ago ), and i replaced the front right axle about 5000 miles ago. The only thing i was able to find was a loose, what i think is a tie rod. i'm assuming they forgot to tighten it when they did the alignment. so i tightened it, but it didn't solve the problem. i thought maybe the wheel hub nuts coule be loose but they were tight. i banged around for a long time trying to find loose bolts or connections down there but came up with nothing. if anyone has had a similar issue and could give me a couple things to check for i would appreciate it. I'm pretty sure the noise is coming from the right or right-center of the car. thanks.

does it go away when u hit the brakes, try going down a road when u hear it then lightly hit the brakes, if it goes away its the same problem i had, its your pads/pad retainer that are loose and cause the clicking noise. its anoying as hell check that then lmk

bushing or balljoints maybe? I really have no idea, but just throwing out some ideas. Good luck though.

i have a similar clunk from under my teg too. I am 99% sure it is just the control arm bushing though. take a look at them and if they look bad just replace them.

thanks for the info, i checked the brake pads but i didn't try hitting the brakes while it's clunking. i will try that tomorrow.

i'm not even sure how to tell if the control arm bushing is bad. i can see that maybe is the problem since the car is so old, but would it make the clunk when turning? it only clunks once in the middle of the turn then stops.

check your strut mounts make sure that everything is tight and also check the link pins on the ends of the sway bar they will make noises like you say your having. does your car have alot of body roll when you go into corners if so its probly the link pins they are easy to replace and just get some polyunthane. stiffer then stock bushings.

now that you mention the sway bar, when i was looking under the car there was a bushing that was torn in half on the sway bar. it was basically falling off, i just removed it. could that be the reason for the noise, that little busing?

well even if its not causing the noise its definitely causing some other negative side effect and needs to be taken care of right away.

but if that doesn't fix it, maybe take a gander at your half-shafts/axles...

i looked at the axles, there is no fluid leaking out of them, plus i just replaced the right one like 5000 miles ago. i tried to pull it out but it wouldn't move, it doesn't wiggle a little bit up and down but i don't think that would cause the noise.

which ball joint? i was looking in my helms and it appears that it is pretty difficult to install either one of them. i don't see how it could be the axle, the spindle nut is tight so im not sure what else could be making the noise.
