Default oil leak, crankshaft seal.

hey guys, had an oil leak, thought it was the pan, so i spent all weekend changing valvecover, oil, filter, oil pan gasket, the whole tune up. go to start it up, look under to check it out cuz i thought for sure it was the pan, and im leaking oil like a waterfall. the timing belt cover is in the way, so i can't really see, but its leaking from the bottom end of the motor, and im pretty sure its the crankshaft seal. anyone ever changed one before?? do i have to pull the whole motor?? anyone who's done this before let me know all you can, cuz this is gonna suck ***. oh well, now i can change the timing belt and water pump. by the way, sohc zc is what i have. thanks

You'll have to pull the timing belt covers, timing belt, crank pulley and crank pulley gear all off to get to the crankshaft seal. As you mentioned, its probably a good time to change your timing belt and water pump. You might even want to consider changing out the oil pump since you will have everything already off.

Good luck.

thanks man, im need some luck with damn car. im thinking about paying someone else to do it, cause i don't even wanna get it into. im also thinking, if im gonna take it out halfway, why not do it all the way and have the thing built up. but then i don't know if i wanna drop a grand in pistons, cam, other **** on an old *** zc. wonder if i should just scratch it and go b series. i was wanting to boost it this year, now im wondering if its worth it, cause once i get started, who knows where i'll stop, and i'd like to drive the car sometime in the future. all its done for the past six months is sit while i've worked on it. now i get it ready to drive and i got a freakin oil leak like niagra falls. any opinions on what i should do?? id be interested to know how everyone feels on what my options are. and another thing to cosider is cost, cause i am not rich. thanks guys, let me know what you think.

You should look at your budget, your life situation (driving, steady income, etc), and decide what you want this particular CRX to be for you. That's a lot of work to do if you are planning up doing a motor swap later on, especially in the next year. Price out what you want, see what's feasible, what you are capable of doing (or paying a shop to do), and plan from there. Feel free to post so others can steer you in the right direction in case shop or website misdirects you.
