B18C VTEC Question

hey i got JDM B18C in my del sol and im wondering if the vtec kicks in at 4500 or 5500.... i have the original Del Sol Si Gauge Cluster which redlines at 7200 but it sounds like vtec is kicking in at 4500? wondering if my tach is off... or what?

The B18C (non-R) engages VTEC at 4400 RPM, and opens the high-RPM intake manifold runners at 5800 RPM.
