Electrical problems with 90 Crx Si
My friends crx is having a weird problem. He pulled the valve cover off to to check for an oil leak and when he put it back he forgot to put back the engine ground on the gauges got a lil wacky then i put it back on but the guages were still fluddering then the headlights and all rest of electrical stuff started to dim out then the car died so i bought a new battery and replaced the wires to the starter and checked the starter and ignition and the main fuse box which all have power but the car will not turn over the inside fuse box has no power though then i found that my speedo cable popped off behind the cluster and was spinning back there and the coating on the cable stripped off and for some weird reason the speedo cable had 12 volts running through it pulled it out completly and still cant figure out what is wrong
SO your saying the speedo cable came unplugged from the back of the cluster and was spinning? I assume the car wasn't moving, because the problems your having. And it had power going to it? did you check all your grounds, valve cover, thermostat, body/trans.? the fuses are good in your main fuse box right? any check engine lights? flashing any codes? I had a problem one time and had to replace the main fuse box. the code was for electric load detector.
The speedo cable was plugged in the problem he tells me is that the part of it behind the engine has all the black coating rubbed off and it had power going thru the speedo cable which leads me to belive that a wire has grounded itself against the cable.
Ok I went over to his house to take a look at the car. The Speedo cable is all chewed up and he told me that when he was under the dash looking around the speedo cable touched a metal braket and made a spark.
dont think its supposed to have current thru it.
From what i can tell the inside fuse box is not getting power . I checked battery voltage and the engine bay fuse box is getting power and so is the starter. WHen you turn the key to ignition only the battery light and CE light comes on the clock stays off. When you turn the key you get nothing not even a click.
Ideas?

Ok so i went over to day and helped him pull out this really crappy alarm the car installed and plugged up all the wires like stock (Shrink wrap/sod)
Now the battery is new and all the ground wires seem to be intact and making good contact. The problem now is as soon as you reconnect the batter the temp guage goes to hot and the battery light stays on and this is all with the key out of the ignition
when you turn the key to 2nd position nothing in the cabin gets power no clock or dash lights and no start
Any ideas?
