mix and match
I'm was thinking of putting together an 89 Honda Accord LXi motor (A20A3) to a
86 DX or LX tranny (A2Q6). I know they will fit and can be mounted; but my question
is --- are they compatible? How would this affect the fuel economy of the car?
A friend says the MPG would drop! Any ideas??(and why?) Would the gear ratios
(between an 88/89 and this 86) be different enough to drop the milage?
Would welcome comments jrboggs48@yahoo.com
Thanks

Actually, without commenting on the fit/no fit (which I believe they will, you should actually see an improvement in fuel economy.
This is where you're starting:
BS 2.0 12V SOHC 2bbl Carb 1955 98hp@5500rpm 110tq@3500rpm '86 Accord DX/LX (USA)
And this is where you're going:
A20A3 12V 1955cc SOHC PGM-FI 1955 120hp@5500rpm 119tq@4500rpm '88-'89 Accord LX-i (USA)
22 additional Horsepower and 9ft/lb Torque.
Because you're installing a more powerful engine behind the same gearing, the engine will not have to work as hard to perform the same job, thus saving fuel*.
You will have to make provisions for the PGM-FI fuel delivery system (Pump, etc), engine control (Harness and ECM) and other considerations (Of Course)
*Assuming you can keep your foot out of it
