Thinking about turbo options, what would you guys do?
Right now i have a 12.7:1 compression built LS/Vtec....
yeah yeah i learned the hardway that N/A is no fun, so now im saving up and planning to somehow turbo my car.. here are my pretty much two options..
1.) Buy a stock LS for 800 bucks from hmotorsonline, it'll have less then 30k miles on it, so i will feel safe turboing it with about 10lbs of boost as is. Buying this motor and getting the turbo kit all together then when its ready swapping it out with my current Ls/Vtec and selling my Ls/Vtec motor for around 2 grand, thus having just a straightup Ls/Turbo (how would this work with the b16 tranny? anyone ever done it? im not sure about the short geats, the low redline and boost...)
2.)Saving up and buying a daily driver (i'd wanna get one with either option, dont feel safe with a turbo car and now daily driver) Then buying forged low compression pistons, and all my necessary turbo parts, then pulling my motor, taking out the current high compression pistons, and getting it machined (this would make up for the 800 dollar cost of a new block) and then turboing it and putting it back in and having a Turbo Ls/Vtec with forged internals, thus i could probably run around 12-15lbs of boost whenever i want to crank it up.
Money is not really a big option, i have a decent job where i can get 50 hours a week, and make around 2400 a month, which isnt great, but hey i have 0 expenses.
I guess main two concerns are this is option 2 better then option 1 b/c i would have forged internals, and a higher redline thus my tranny wouldnt be an issue.. or is option 1 better then option 2 b/c Ls/Vtec turbo could be hazardous.
What kind of power differences do you think i would see?
TIA
Edit:What if i stroked the regular LS out to a 1.9 or 2.0 liter? would the cylinder walls still be safe for boost? how much does a stroke usually cost? Should i stroke and Bore?
