Default state referee tech related... i'm in dire need of help from everybody experienced.

I’m in desperate need of some expertise.

I have a JDM D15B. this vehicle needs to be brought to the state referee. A couple of questions. Will it pass? This is bone freaking stock by the way. Running off a P08 ECU.

What consists of a state referee examination?

The vehicle is a 94 del sol. If it will not pass that examine, how will I pass?

so far... this is what i have to get.

-Civic VX ECU (P07)
-VX O2 sensor

not sure what this means?
If the vehicle is a California certified vehicle then the engine must also be a California certified engine.

pep boys "gaurantee smog passing" stuff

what i understand is everything connected to the exhaust has to be state legal, such as headers, downpipe, etc. also with the intake. and you have to be running off of a usdm ecu.

I think that is all you need to pass a jdm engine. please correct me if i'm wrong.

Thanks

i've search... read almost all the 8978932 threads under referee, smog, and d15b. i'm not worried about the smogging portion of the examination because everything in my car is stock. **** i don't even have an intake. LoL.

what i'm concerned about is the visual.

they'll run the block code and it's going to be listed as a JDM 92-95 civic VTi engine. the car is a 94 so it should pass (passenger to passenger). that's about all they do correct?

Check the head stamp for the year of the car. If its 94/95 then youll be ok. If not then you might run into some problems depending on the ref.

Is it the D15B VTEC? I think you need to run a p28 and all smog equipment to that (4wire o2, evap crap, etc.)

The VX ECU is not the correct ECU for that motor, so it should not be the "accepted" choice. You need to run the P08. Besides, 95% of VX's use 5 wires. Good luck wiring that crap up AND the EGR to keep it from throwing a CEL.

i thought the VX ecu is a 1 wire (heater only) o2 sensor

95% of them are 5 wires... They also have 4 wires. The only one wire I know of is the early HF and I THINK the CX. Even if it was a 1 wire, like I said.. you going to also hookup all the EGR control crap to keep it from tossing an EGR code? Trust me, its not the right ECU to use for that engine.

I didn't want to mention anything because I am sure people will climb down my throat... but, technically that engine shouldn't pass either since it has no US counterpart either.

Well, maybe that is the equivilant they are using... The VX was a 1.5l and was a Vtec engine, so maybe that is how they classify it. Does the JDM D15B have the EGR though?

the jdm d15b vtec needs a p28 and 4wire o2 in order to pass. make sure you have plenty of grime on the motor, a clean motor will add suspition.
