Default nhra/D1 rumor

a little birdie says that nhrasc and d1 are teaming up for the LV event
anyone else hear this?

ive been saying for awhile, a co-branded event would be hella dope
i always thought it would take place in sonoma though
to nhra for this new venture, if it is indeed true(dont mean to spoil the fun for anyone if its not true)

Yup, NHRA and D1 have teamed up. This is a very very good thing for both organizations. It will create a autopalooza type of enviroment where the spectator will win and get the best of everything for their money at the front gate. Drag,Drift and Show. This hypothetically should bring attendance numbers even higher. Regardless if you hate drift, it will be the best for drag racing as well. Rumor /has it 10 Japanese drifters will be pitted with Pro Drag teams and Las Vegas will be the first test for this type of event. Big Props to D1 and NHRA for expanding the Sport Compact Community!

I have been waiting for this to happen for some time. Hopefully both organizations will see that working together will help more then hurt. Kids today need a lot going on to keep them interested and this is perfect for that.

This is indeed true. We announced the partnership at the D1 event last weekend. Abel Ibarra and Ed Bergenholtz represented NHRA at the announcement.

This partnership was 6 months in the making. We are very excited to finally bring two premiere Sport Compact sanctioning bodies together in one event.

It will be a full D1 event with at least 20 "pro" drifters (12 brought over from Japan). And we are opening the event to "amature"drifters as well.

The racing WILL NOT overlap. Drifting will compete inbetween the pro rounds of drag racing.

We will have a formal press release shortly.

I personally am not all that hot about drifting myself but i have to admit that this type of deal would help drag racing a lot.

i was lucky to get some free tickets to the opener for D1 here in irwindale last week
and i have to admit that when i observed the tons of people that came out the first thing that came to my head was how come our events can't have this many people.
i remember the days when there were more though..... i think drifting did take a good amount of drag racing fans..
just my two cents

whatever is best for the sport.

Ryan,

We were at the D1 event as well. We know what the real spectator numbers were (from D1 and Irwindale Speedway). Very good event and very busy

HOWEVER----

Let me just say---The NHRA Sport Compact event at Pomona in Oct. 2005 had many more paid spectators.

The stands at Irwindale only hold 6000 packed tight.

The NHRA Sport Compact / D1 Vegas event should be huge.

Good idea. I'm a fan for two types of racing at one event. Butts in the seats

just my .02 but here is another reason main stream domestic racers and companies in there stable wont be brought to our side...

there gona look at this as "look they cant draw butts to the seats so there in a last ditch effort to fill em with anything"

or "see i told yah there the same fad going out the door"

im expecting the flames , but who will flame because this joining is just the "buisness thing to do" talk.

drifting is a huge waste of time and money and the general public after seeing it will then assume were on the same path.

again, just my .02c

james

"whatever is best for the sport." or the short term of getting those 3 extra asses thru the gates.

NHRA + D1= more fans= more competitors. good call

this seems like a logical step for a "sport " such as ours. everyone of us is interested in cars reguardless if they go straight or sideways. this will definitly get a bigger crowd to the events. and hopefully draw more sponsors and $$ to the sport.

So I'm assuming the SFWD\SRWD guys are gonna get hosed on this?

Either Way, this is cool...I have hated Drifting for awhile but the main reason was because I was taking fans\racers away from Drag Racing. Problem Solved it seems.

Wasn't there a combined drag/drift event a couple of years ago? It was cool, but PLEASE DO NOT put the drift thing so far away. It was a PITA to get to. Maybe the distance would keep the people in the drag race area.
