SCCA Logbook in hand!
Well, Sunday - I got the R officially certified as an SCCA - ITE racecar. What a process. I sailed through pretty easy, but the 6 months the car has been setting with all the miscellaneous parts has seemed like eternity.
Would I do it again? You bet. Although everyone says it's cheaper to buy a used racecar, if the car you want is already paid off - it's only ~$6000 to get the cage & seats & safety equipment/trailer etc. Now if I were to go buy a different racecar, I would have a much better appreciation for what went into it.
Will it cost more? You bet. I'm sure I'll blow the 125,000+ mile motor at some point, just not until I get a couple events under my belt. Next year a 2nd motor with a World Challenge build is on the scope.
Can I wait until the first event....heck no - I'm doing a BMW hpde just to get my legs back. I haven't driven the car since the expo on the track. My first SCCA event is the following week.
I'm open to any questions for anyone who is interested in going down this path. I'm not the world's greatest driver, nor do I have the quickest car, but I do care about informing the younger generation about the opportunities to drive a car fast in a controlled environment instead of street racing.
You can see a few pics of the cage process here:

Why I had fun building the car? Check out my son:

Here's the car -

Oh yea - Bob Woodhouse has his best salesman & our previous Expo 5 MAM instructor (Bill Pemberton) racing a Viper competition coupe in my class
I'm prepared to get my butt handed to me

I'll try to take a pic. I just bought the kit from bimmerworld.com for a jiffy fuel scca kit.
It had everything I needed to put a T in the fuel line from the filter to the fuel rail & a hose extending out where I could get to it. The jiffy dry/connect is at the end.
I've simply tied the other attachment to the front of the ABS so it's available if I need to test in impound.

Is that your tow hook coming from under the hood? If so, where is it attached? Do you think that having it there may bend the bumper or upper radiator support somehow?

Ooops - I guess I was typing too fast & had Woodhouse on my mind.
Thanks for the correction

David - One hole was already large enough, the other I made a little bigger. It fits great. It shouldn't be a problem & if it is...I shouldn't have been off the track with the **** end stuck

WC build? whoa.. I would research that a bit more before undertaking that expense.. the SCCA WC isn't exactly friendly to cars out of production.. Grand Am however.....

welcome to the club jeff.
i might make the treck out to topeka during the BMW event not to drive, but to see what they've done with the place.
i'll for sure be at the SCCA event, but i doubt i'll have the car. there's just too much to repair on it that soon. i'll have a front row seat for your race though

Don't worry - I won't be running WC. However, our Region runs WC rules for ITE. Therefore, it's open season to have a 230hp N/A beast built if I can find a dollar or two.
