Ive been running my car almost like a shortram air setup with the airbox cover off. I was just wondering if his was bad for the car. Also I was wondering since I had a valve tap, that this may be the cause of the problem. If so Ill put the cover back on and Ill have the dealership check the valves, after all it is still under warrenty. Plus I love to rip the **** outta there loners. F****n bastards scrathed my rims last time so they deserve it.
Nah. Honda designed the cover with no purpose in mind. They just wanted to add extra weight to the front of the car.
We'll be waiting for your future post asking about engine rebuilders.

I have a homemade pipe under my stock airbox w/ a K&N filter inside. This plus my suspension netted me the time you see in my sig. If I could get my launch down better I could get in the 14's.
It sounds almost just like stock, too.

The reason why it's there is for various reasons. 1, so people have no chance in hell to get their filter wet and hydrolock the engine. 2, becuase less dirt will accumulate on the filter if it's closed in, unexposed to road grime, and 3, to make the car more quiet. The average buyer does NOT want a loud car, hence the resonator box which attaches to the bottom of the airbox and leads into the passenger side fenderwell, this also keeps a "reservoir" of ambient temperature air for the engine to suck in.

removing the cover isn't gonna hurt ur engine. someone did a dyno w/ and w/o the cover and they actually lost mid range tq/hp. it sure does sound nice though.
Lose power by sucking in hot air? Nah... the stock intake already sucks in hot air. You might gain minimal hp in the higher rpm's (due to shorter intake pipe length) but will probably lose some low/midrange power. It won't hurt your engine, but your filter will get dirty quicker.
Removing the air box lid is not the reason why your valves are tapping. Valve tap is more evident when you take it up to higher RPMs often. Normally, you would have to get your valves adjusted every 15k miles, but more-so if you beat the **** out of the car.
I'd advise against leaving the lid off of the air box. Hot air isn't cool.

Thanx for the replies. The valves were tapping when I got the car in Aug. I had them adjust them around that time frame, and in the winter it started up again. I really dont beat the **** outta my car, so could there be any other reasons why they keep insisting on tapping?

Hell yeah thats what I thaught, I mean its sucking hot air in anyways, since plastic tubing isnt a good heat shield, and u can here it rip into Vtec.

PatrickGSR- Which k&n filter are you running?
Plastic is a much better heat insulator than a metal tube intake. I'm sure I would lose something if I remove the cover because my intake draws air from behind the bumper light.
