Default Is there ANYTHING you can do to make the stock airbox breathe better?

Looking for a way to make my engine bay look stock but still be able to breathe a little better then the stock restrictive way. Is there anything you can do with the air box/piping to make it breathe a little better?

The only real 'bad' part of the intake system is the resonator. You could pull out that part of the piping, but then you'd loose the benefit of the piping pulling in cold air from behind the headlight. I'd just throw a K&N in there and call it a day.

You can cut the bottom off of it, pretty ghetto IMO but whatever.

You could also look into a Comptech Icebox. Keep the stock arm from your stock box and use it in conjunction with the icebox. Viola! Better flow with a stock look.

I cut the bottom of my box, gheyto...so I removed the resignator, and was better (coverd the whole I had cut) But I wanted some cooler air, so I got some flexi pipe and dropped it from the intake box's hole to the bumper. I used it for about 6+ months, not a single problem...car did run colder, and had a slightly differnt tone.

Why not just keep the upper part where the filter goes in and take off the rest of the snake looking pipes. I did that and still gets air from the hole thats on there.

I replaced the stock plastic piping from the tb to the box with aluminum piping painted black, then i got another piece of pipe, which was originally a U bend, cut that in half, so i had an L shaped pipe. I used a plumbing clamp and secured that piece into the bottom of the box. Long end into the box, short piece pointing to the front of the car. The pipe sits right in between a part of the car and my rad. It is my version of a ghetto home-made icebox btw, it is very quiet!

1.) get a JDM eg civic air intake arm, only the arm because the box is the same, but the arm is larger in diameter. (not cuz its JDM )

2.)then remove the resonator and take some black air ducting and rout it to the bottom of the air box where the resonator was and take the other end and route it to the front bumper,

3.)then use a drop in hi flow filter like k&n

1st of all what engine are we talking about here? An aftermarket dropin would be a good place to start.

Well, he may be getting hot air @ idle and low crusing speeds (20 and below), but while moving, I'm pretty sure it is somewhat benificial. Nothing wrong with looking for "free power".

just take off all the resinator piping...it still draws in colder air than the engine bay. and of course swap filters.

what's your reasoning for "upgrading" your...air box rather than just getting a good CAI?
