Accord Transmission problem
Hi, I recently posted about my transmission problem, and one of the members suggested that I use Honda ATF. The Car shifts smoothly now but when I get into 2nd or 3rd gear it struggles on 4k or 5k RPM the car moves back and forth while driving.
what is the problem? Im scared to go on the freeway now.

Brian, What year was this? Something like an '86 or '87 carbureted 2.0L LX? First thing we must do is determine if the symptoms you describe are transmission related, or engine related; since transmission operation can be adversely effected by a poor running engine.
We've also got to eliminate any conditions which are actually 'normal', and either just weren't working prior, or the thing was so screwed up previously; you just didn't notice. For instance your observation:

This could be the downshift function, or the Torque Converter releasing and applying; either one from input from the gas pedal.
Honda wasn't using the electronic shift 4spd Automatic in 1987 ('90 to present). Yours was a previous generation Tranny. And as such will (most likely) be cheaper to replace that previously mentioned.
As an example; Honda offers a re-manufactured unit for the next years' '88 Accord for an over the counter of (as low as*) $1494.00.

My sister had her '92 rebuilt at Aamco (of all places) for $1700.00. You could probably find a used unit (with a warranty) for $600.00 / $800.00. Someone in here might be able to hook you up with a good one cheap. You've all manner of avenues; IF it gets that far.
*select dealer Internet pricing (local prices may scare the pants off you

I thought the cost of living was high in the Northeast. Remind me not to break down in Roscoe, Illinois
