Default Chevron with techron works?

So i got an 18 year old car and has seen chevron only a couple times. I heard that techron stuff clean outs your fuel system, thus will help increase gas mileage. Well last saturday i filled up with chevron and my gas mileage went down!!!! How many times do i need fill up with techron before i see any effects?

I normally fill with 76 or shell because they are cheaper and easier to accesss.......

Well those three are the best and all have their own cleaning agents as far as i know. And using chevron is not the reason you got worse gas mileage, unless it was a bad batch with alot of water in it.

I never got this whole water thing. After all, the amount of water that can actually dissolve in gas is EXTREMELY miniscule.

you would be better off just using a gas additive to get rid of the water once a month

i've had gas lines freeze solid...

to the OP- have you ever taken apart an 18yr old motor? "clean" won't be the first thing you say. just buy gas.

still original tranny and motor....and engine has never been rebuilt.

Since you said 76 and shell both have cleaning additives ill stick with 76 and shell. But does shell and 76 have these additives in their 87 octane?

Ever thought of doing a tune up? Does really help gas mileage and performance.

Cap/Rotor/Wires/Plugs.

just get the concentrate separately.

you can get the techron concentrate, or the same thing under another brand called BG 44k. or any other fuel additive im only giving the benefit of the doubt actually works.

as for it making your gas mileage better on the same tank of gas is a bit much to expect. if anything, its not surprising it went down.

what i think ive read how it works is that it causes the engine to burn even hotter so it burns off the sludge on the valves and whatnot. do your own research.

and dont ignore doing the other stuff like a good tune up and keeping your tires inflated properly. ive recorded experience of a low pressure tire causing me almost 5mpg.

BMW recommends Techron every other tank or something like that to keep everything clean and of course they sell the concentrate at the dealer. If I can buy gas with it already in it, it's added incentive to go to Chevron. That's not the sole reason though, of course price is a big factor these days.

If you want a high detergent gasoline, go with the Shell V-power. It currently has the highest detergent levels of any fuel in the U.S. (twice the Tier 1 standard.) My car seems to like it.....I get good economy and performance.

If you are trying to do an actual fuel system cleaning, you may want to look into BG 44k.

yeah i have to agree with you on this one...

I have used chevron in my new motor every fill up using plus or supreme.. my fill up 25 bucks or so, 9.8-10.00 gallons i get about 200-210 per fillup with my 91 si w/b18 daily driving...

I switched to shell since i was low as F and it was the only place around.. filled up supreme, BAM i got 240 miles out of it..

I found it very odd since i did the same type of driving and got a little more out of shell gas than chevron...

I love chevron (dad is a plant manager so i am kinda born into it. lol) but now that i get more out of other gas i am thinking twice....

but chevron is def great gas. I dont know. Maybe my car doesn't like chevron all the time. Cause i put it in ALL the time. Fill it up with supreme once a week.

I guess a little change in gas every once in a while does help out... or maybe i am crazy...

Yep..... Im crazy

That's not the same thing. When gas lines freeze, it is due to condensation that forms in the tank in cold weather. Not water that is 'added' to fuel. As I said before, the amount of water that dissolves in fuel is a small fraction of one percent. Even benzene (which is probably the most water soluble hydrocarbon) only dissolves in water to the extent of about 6cc per liter (.6%). Gasoline dissolves to a MUCH smaller extent than this.

when i filled up with chevron i did notice a little bit(just a little) more smoothness though :-)

Jesus I hope that's not true. That could really f your engine up like toast valve seats and stuff if gas adititives were reasing the temp up in there. I am guessing **** like techron is just a really strong solvent.
