Default air/water set-up coming together fabbed tank and PWR intercooler

I just thought I'd post a few pics of my air/water setup in my Sol. The tank was fabbed up to fit fit where the bumper beam had been, it holds right at 3 gals, and the cap is accessible through the drivers side aux light. I'm using an aftermarket heat exchanger from a Ford Cobra/Lightning. and a PWR air/water intercooler.

looks good. One thing that comes to mind is do you think that the advantages of the air to water setup will over come the amount of weight you are adding from this setup?

my thinking that if I did have to add any weight it should be in front for traction, by putting in place of the bumper beam was it is as far forward as possible. midwest summers are hot and anything I could do to keep intake temps down I was going to try a water/air I/C, we'll see

current plans are tank-heat exchanger-pump-I/C and back to the tank. it's designed as so the heat exchanger can be quickly dismounted and bypassed for drag racing. I'll be using ice in the tank during drag racing and the heat exchanger would be serving a reverse purpose. Keep the comments coming

I noticed you still have the power steering resevoir and so probably still have PS.
I really really really really really really really really hope this isn't a street car with the bumper removed. Its not just for 5mph impacts.
Other than that, how does airflow to the radiator look? have you made any adjustments for the space blocked off by the tank.
The fab and fitment work looks pretty good!

I still have the PS resevoir but it's teed into a looped PS rack. The car will be street driven very very very little. As far as addressing airflow issues the tank is 1 inch deeper than the bumper beam, I have plans to duct air going into pass side aux light through a oil cooler and then through the rad. I have aslo opened up the bumper cover opening to maximize air flow. Also considering a FAL fan for a little more pull.

ill tell ya one....even a person w/ a clue cant walk up to my car and tell me its boosted....heh sleeperness...only of course till i open the 3" dp...and get comments like..."i think you have a hole in your exh" and to my reply...yep its there on purpose

aside from that...a/w is great for the track and what not...but after the system gets some heat into it...its nearly impossible to get out...but ill tell ya one thing...a nice big block of ice in my 3gal cooler....makes my IC nice and frosty....and get dam low iat's....but a big thing of ice...well lasts about 15-20min of fun...but the coldness stays present for about 30-40 min of hard driving! heheh so go have fun!

I'm sure there will be a learning curve with the setup, but in time I'm sure it'll be worth it

i think your set up is very neat bro, i was wanting to run an air to water myself, but everyone says they are so hard to tune for everyday driving, although i had one on my supercharged mustang and never had an issue at all.

keep up the killer work bro

heh tuning...took me awhile to get it nailed down alright...still after th car gets majorly heatsoaked the 780's idle like a bitch....so ill prob be moving my iat sensor to the charge piping to help alleviate this problem...aside from that its just hard to get consisitent temps...but it can be done

why not just cap off the ends of the bumper and use that as the tank?

That's an awesome idea! More weight over the front wheels = more traction.

heh need we say rust...and gettin all that rust into the system well...it'll just cause problems....aluminum is the way to go...and his tank will somewhat act like a heatsink also

I've been brainstorming this water/air setup for awhile now, glad to see other people back up what I've put together. I got the idea for the custom tank from chrisgvr4

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1152625

but I felt putting in place of the bumper beam might work just as well, centered across the front of car, weight placed as far forward as possible. It would have been cheaper to weld up the factory beam but wouldn't have held much water, and as said by drumking15 would have rusted out pretty quick. Thanks again for all the help

Good to see ya post the pics of the Sol heath. Guys trust me Heath has done his research along with all the research I did before I boosted. He has bought the best of the best for his setup. It's crazy how many different things he keeps getting to help with performance and reliability. I can't wait to see this thing run. I'm not sure I'll look foward to help tune this monster though. I will say one thing and that's he will give me one hell of a run, even though he doesn't think so.
