You've a classic case of Warped Brake Rotors (or, as the Brit's call it "Judder").
Most likely, somewhere in the past you plowed thru a puddle (or other cold medium) immediately after applying the brakes for a while.
As long as they haven't been remachined before (thickness issues), they can either be Remachined off car with a Brake Lathe, or done on-car with a special fixture which regrinds them in place.
Both avenues are viable, but if you don't have these specialty tools available to you; you're reliant on a garage to do the work.

Most likely your front brake rotors are warped. If you can afford it, you may want to invest in some aftermarket slotted & cross-drilled rotors & brake pads. Don't go for anthing that won't fit within the diameter of your current rims, unless you want to get some larger wheels.

I wouldn't advise machining your rotors, if its the fronts that are warped. They'll most likely become warped again, or be really loud, nowadays its cheaper to just buy some new rotor. Just checked and an OEM set of Brembo rotors is just about 140 bucks, some are cheaper though, there's some no name brand selling for 35 each. You gotta figure the shop is gonna charge you to machine them, and the time they took with the "brake inspection". Might be cheaper in the long run to just buy new rotors. I agree with Durkhanus, slotted rotors diipate heat faster, reducing your chances of warpage, if you go that route look for Brembo, good bang for your buck.

if your rims are 15" or larger do a V6 brake conversion. Those puppies are pressed on all of the 4cyl cars........that fact alone means PITA to change
