CEL code 6....Questions....? 92 Accord Ex, AT.
Hi again....Last week i wrote a thread about my veichle, i am having trouble with it. After reading and searching MANY threads i was able to check my 92 accord's problem through the "code giver Jumper".
It shows me 6 short blinks.....ECT (Engine Coolant Temp. sensor. Today i went to my local Honda dealer to try to buy this part, The counter guy turns around and tells me there is 2 Temp sensors. He even gives me a diagram. Before attempting to buy them both or either one, Can Anyone VERIFIY which one i need if indeed my car has two.....?http://www.hondaautomotivepart...+PUMP
It is number 14 and 15 he pointed out in the above link, same diagram copy he gave me.
Also....Can anyone tell me how MANY qts of Honda ATF-Z1 oil goes in my Tranny...? It is time for a change...Thanks.

#14 says 'switch' so it is probably the cooling fan turn on switch.....#15 says 'sensor' so it probably is the one feeding info to the ECU
3 quarts of honda 'Z1' ATF per trans fluid change.

It is neither one of those. The ECT is located under the distributer. There are three sensors or switches with pigtails in that area. The ECT is the 3rd one back. The front one is the fan switch and the middle one is the temp guage sending unit.
The (Helm) service manual would show you where it is located on your car. I don't happen to have one anymore (92). Maybe someone else has one. Even one of the cheap ones (Advance & Autozone) would probably show you where it is.
I was kind of thinking it was the one directly in front of my distributor, within the thermastat housing.....until i was confused by this fine parts guy at my local Honda dealer.
The problem i have is code 6 (Engine Coolant Temperature sensor) shouldn't a parts guy at Honda or for that fact Autozone give me the right part if i ask for it by name...?
Anyone out there got pics. of the location to my ECT sensor...?

Try the one amckee suggested above. That's the best suggestion I have. The discription for the sensor in the diagram does not say ECT. So it makes me think that's not it.

Thats for the guage. The one in the very front is the fan switch that runs the fans when you turn off the ignition. Thats not the thermostat housing, by the way.

I believe it is #24 on this drawing.

Try again.
Honda part # is 37870-PK2-015 I'm like 95% sure. Those aren't Honda #'s on that Majestic site. Have your Honda dealer check #24 on the Engine Sub Chord page and cross the # with the one I just gave you.
Sure as hell...you were right. I had them cross check this page and Honda number and it WAS the ECT. I will replace it this weekend, Should i drain all the antifreeze or will i be ok without draining...? Thanks to ALL who responded, hopefully this fixes my CEL problem.
I would drain about a gallon of coolant into a clean container. Then pour it back in after. If you happen to drain all of the coolant out, be sure to loosen the bleed bolt before pouring the coolant back in. This prevents air from getting trapped in the system. Good luck.
Thanks for the tip.......Pardon the ignorance, Where is the BLEED bolt....? In the past, I'd change my Coolant, I would then start the car for a while with the Radiator cap off, i was told this expels air too, Can anyone confirm this......?
Come to think about it, i changed it about 1 month ago, that is when i start having problems....Hmmm, i wonder if i did something wrong.
I'll probably have to remove my Dist. cap to get to the ECT....maybe it would be a good time to change it.
