Default accord help

i have a 91 accord lx and i am having a few problems with it. first, my sports light is on from start to shut off of car and it seems to cause the transmission to only shift from first to second manually, but i have an automatic car, and when i put it in D3 or D4 it stays in second gear. Also, today my oil light came on when i just put oil in a week or two ago. i go through oil very fast and i notice that right there next to the oil cap there is a screw and there is oil covered over the screw everytime i look and that side of the top looks to be moist always. someone told me that it was the piston rings but idk. and when i opened my oil cap to add oil today while the car was hot, i stuck my nose real close to the hole and smelled gasoline. any suggestions anyone. please help.

Are you getting thick grey smoke out the tail pipe? If not, you've most likely leaking it, rather than burning it. Suspect the oil filter base gasket (you may have 'double gasketed" it). Also check the oil pressure sender unit, mounted directly above the oil filter.
If your "check Engine " lamp hasn't come on, we should suspect the TCM (Transmission Control Module). It is suseptible to capacitior failures (id'd as a black muck which has leaked onto the modules Printed Circuit Board). It will cause the conditions you discribe.
If you can pull a code from the system, that will more difinitively ID what's going on; but I suspect the TCM.

You also need to fix the valve cover leak (not piston rings). Pull out each of the sparkplug wires. Are they wet with oil? If so, you have a deeper problem. Look down the tube with a flashlight, and check for oil in the tube.
