engine knocks, fresh rebuild, do i need oem bearings?
engine sounds like it may have a slight knock coming from it, i bought a rebuild kit from napa and someone told me this was a bad idea, and if it knocked that we would have to change it out with honda oem color coded bearings. the bearing tolerances seemed perfect according to the plastiguage. i am just worried that i should replace the bearings right away (if this is the case) to prevent further damage.

All I could say it that you should of rebuilt the block from the start with OEM parts just to save you the trouble of maybe something happening.
Someone help this guy out, Ht'ers where you at?

welcome to the rod knock club. i just had one start knocking after about 180 miles on a fresh rebuild. i trusted my machine shop guy a little too much and ran a ground crank (mistake #1) with clevite bearings (mistake #2), and didn't recheck his measurements for clearances (mistake #3). you can use a stethoscope and also pull one plug wire at a time while the engine is running to determine which rod is knocking. good luck.
